ADVANCED GEOTECHNICAL AND EARTH SCIENCE CENTER

Pioneering Subsurface Excellence: Our New Advanced Geotechnical and Earth Science Canter
The Advanced Geotechnical and Earth Science Canter at our university has reached a new milestone with the establishment of its Center of Excellence (CoE). This facility is meticulously designed to provide a 360-degree approach to soil and rock mechanics, moving beyond routine testing into high-precision forensic engineering and research.
Our laboratory features a sophisticated range of equipment, from fundamental classification tools like Atterberg Limit setups and Hydrometers to advanced strength-testing rigs. A key highlight is our Triaxial Test Apparatus, which allows for precise measurement of shear strength under various drainage conditions, essential for the design of dams, embankments, and high-rise foundations.
Beyond standard testing, we have integrated High-Capacity UTM Machines, Electronic Consolidometers for automated settlement analysis, and Standard Penetration Test (SPT) rigs. To support rock mechanics, the lab is equipped with Core Drilling, Cutting, and Grinding machines, alongside Microscopic Analysis stations to examine soil fabric and mineralogy. With the addition of Plate Load Test setups and Cone Penetrometers, this CoE is now a research powerhouse, ensuring our students and partners have access to the most rigorous data for safer infrastructure.
Consultancy & Research Services
With this advanced infrastructure, our Center of Excellence is now open for industrial consultancy and collaborative research in the following areas:
• Foundation Engineering: Bearing capacity estimation using Plate Load Tests and Standard Penetration Tests (SPT) for residential and industrial complexes.
• Infrastructure Safety: Slope stability analysis and shear strength parameter determination via Direct Shear and Triaxial testing.
• Pavement & Earthworks: Quality control through Heavy and Light Compaction tests, CBR analysis, and Relative Density measurements.
• Material Characterization: Comprehensive rock mass characterization using Core Drilling and Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS) testing.
• Seepage & Drainage: Detailed hydraulic conductivity reports using Constant and Falling Head Permeability apparatus.
