Event Detailed Description

The Legal Awareness Cell of the Legal Aid Clinic at the School of Law, Galgotias University, organized the Women’s Day Awareness and Empowerment Program was successfully held at the Community Centre in Noida Sector 71, in collaboration with Bhavishya NGO. The primary goal of the event was to educate and empower women laborers from both the unorganized and organized sectors by raising awareness about their legal rights and offering practical assistance. The event commenced with informative sessions that focused on essential labor laws, including the Unorganized Workers' Social Security Act, which provides social security benefits to workers in the unorganized sector, and the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, which offers protection against harassment at the workplace. These sessions aimed to provide women with the necessary knowledge to recognize and claim their rights, empowering them to act when needed.

Following the educational sessions, an interactive Q&A session was conducted, giving women the opportunity to ask questions regarding their specific legal concerns. This personalized guidance helped attendees better understand how to navigate the challenges they face in their work environments and personal lives. The event also took the opportunity to inform the participants about various government welfare schemes that could support them, including the E-Shram Card, which registers unorganized workers for social security benefits; PM-SYM (Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana), a pension scheme for unorganized sector workers; and Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana, which offers health insurance coverage to low-income workers. Additionally, the participants were assisted in drafting applications related to issues such as unpaid wages, harassment, and benefits claims, ensuring they could access these schemes and enforce their rights. In addition to legal education, a session was dedicated to raising awareness about laws protecting women from domestic violence, ensuring that the participants understood their legal recourse if they experienced abuse. The program also strongly encouraged the formation of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), highlighting how SHGs could foster financial independence, create social support networks, and strengthen community cohesion. SHGs were presented as a powerful tool for women to build economic resilience and support each other

One of the emotional and inspiring highlights of the event was the “Her Story, Her Strength” activity, where women from both the unorganized and organized sectors shared their personal stories. This activity provided a platform for participants to express their struggles, triumphs, and the daily challenges they face, creating a deep sense of solidarity among the women. The stories shared served as a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of women, fostering a sense of unity and empowerment.
