On 27 April 2026, the Department of Biotechnology & Bioengineering, School of Biosciences & Technology, Galgotias University, in collaboration with TURNIP, organized an online workshop titled “Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Awareness and its Significance in Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Research.” Conducted under the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), the workshop commemorated World Intellectual Property Day and aimed to promote awareness about intellectual property protection among students, researchers, and faculty members. The session was led by Dr. Rahul Kapoor, Founder and Director of Turnip Innovations, who provided valuable insights into patents, copyrights, trademarks, and their role in fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and research commercialization. The workshop encouraged participants to understand the significance of safeguarding intellectual assets and leveraging intellectual property for sustainable growth and innovation.

Event Detailed Description

On 27 April 2026, the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), Department of Biotechnology & Bioengineering, School of Biosciences & Technology, Galgotias University, Greater Noida, in collaboration with TURNIP, successfully organized an online workshop titled “Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Awareness and its Significance in Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Research.”

The workshop was organized in celebration of World Intellectual Property Day with the objective of creating awareness about intellectual property rights and their critical role in innovation-driven ecosystems. The event brought together students, research scholars, academicians, and professionals from various institutions across the country to gain insights into intellectual property management and protection.

The keynote session was delivered by Dr. Rahul Kapoor, Founder and Director of Turnip Innovations, who shared his expertise on various dimensions of Intellectual Property Rights, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, industrial designs, and their practical applications in research and entrepreneurship. He highlighted how intellectual property serves as a strategic tool for protecting innovative ideas, strengthening competitive advantage, and facilitating technology transfer and commercialization.

During the session, participants were introduced to the patent filing process, intellectual property regulations, and best practices for safeguarding research outcomes and startup innovations. Dr. Kapoor also discussed the importance of IPR awareness in academic institutions and emphasized its role in promoting creativity, research excellence, and entrepreneurial success.

The workshop featured interactive discussions where participants engaged with the speaker on topics related to patentability, intellectual property challenges, innovation management, and commercialization strategies. The session provided valuable guidance to aspiring innovators, researchers, and entrepreneurs seeking to translate their ideas into impactful solutions.

A total of 154 participants attended the workshop, including 40 students from Galgotias University and 114 external participants comprising students, faculty members, and research scholars from various institutions. The active participation and enthusiastic engagement of attendees contributed significantly to the success of the event.

The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the support of TURNIP and the collective efforts of the Institution’s Innovation Council and the Department of Biotechnology & Bioengineering in promoting innovation awareness and intellectual property education. The event successfully reinforced the importance of protecting intellectual assets and encouraged participants to contribute to a culture of innovation, research excellence, and entrepreneurship.
