Dr. Debal C. Kar is currently serving as University Librarian
at Galgotias University, bringing with him over thirty-eight years of professional
experience in the field of Library and Information Science (LIS). Prior to joining Galgotias University, he
served as University Librarian at Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD) and previously held the position of Fellow
and Area Convenor/Librarian at TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute, formerly known as the Tata
Energy Research Institute).
Dr. Kar holds a Master's degree in Philosophy and a Ph.D. in Library and
Information Science. He was awarded the prestigious Endeavour Executive Fellowship (2014) by the Government
of Australia and served as a Visiting Fellow at the University of Technology, Sydney. Additionally, he
received a scholarship from the Belgium Government (ABOS) and worked as a Visiting Associate at the Faculty
of Pharmacy, Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
Throughout his career, Dr. Kar has contributed extensively to the field through
scholarly work, including the publication of more than 30 research papers, the delivery of
more than 50 invited talks and presentations at international conferences, the editing of more than
25 books and proceedings, and chairing numerous academic sessions.
He is a recipient of several prestigious awards and honors, including being
recognized as an SLA Fellow and inducted into the SLA Hall of Fame. He was
the Founder Editor of the journal World Digital Libraries (2008–2012) and served as President of
the Special Libraries Association (SLA) Asian Chapter in 2007–2008, 2017, and 2022.
Dr. Kar has represented India in various professional capacities across the
globe, having visited countries such as Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong,
Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Macau, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, France, the UK, Estonia, Italy,
Netherlands, Canada, Australia, and the USA.
