Workshop on “Research Need for Integrated Pest Management (IPM)”

Date of event: 21st November 2025

Department: School of Agriculture

The School of Agriculture (SOAG), Galgotias University, organized an enlightening workshop on “Research Need for Integrated Pest Management (IPM),” featuring the distinguished expert Dr. Subhash Chander, Former Director, ICAR–NCIPM. The workshop brought together students from multiple agricultural specializations, providing them with a deeper understanding of sustainable and science-based pest management strategies essential for modern agriculture. Dr. Chander delivered a comprehensive session focusing on the emerging research priorities within Integrated Pest Management. He emphasized the growing importance of IPM in addressing challenges posed by pesticide resistance, climate change, pest resurgence, and ecological imbalances. Highlighting the need for innovative solutions, he discussed key research areas such as pest surveillance systems, bio-intensive approaches, predictive pest modelling, climate-smart pest management, and development of safer biopesticides. The interactive workshop allowed students to engage in meaningful discussions on eco- friendly pest control methods and the role of technology in enhancing IPM efficiency. Dr. Chander encouraged participants to explore data-driven approaches, use of remote sensing, decision-support tools, and agro-ecological principles to design resilient pest management strategies aligned with global sustainability goals. The session broadened students’ perspectives on sustainable crop protection and reinforced SOAG’s commitment to integrating advanced scientific research with real-world agricultural challenges. By hosting such knowledge-enriching workshops, the School of Agriculture continues to promote innovation, environmental stewardship and high-quality agricultural education, empowering future professionals to contribute effectively to sustainable food systems.
