Workshop and Hands-on Session on CNC/VMC Programming

Event Date and year – 31st May 2025

Event brief description – The objective of this workshop was to provide Diploma Mechanical Engineering students with practical exposure to CNC/VMC Programming. The objective was to enhance students' practical knowledge and programming skills related to Computer Numerical Control (CNC) and Vertical Machining Centers (VMC).

To provide students with exposure to real-world CNC/VMC machines.

To enable students to understand part programming, tool path planning, and machine operation.

To offer a hands-on experience on industrial-grade machines.

Event Detailed Description-The workshop commenced with a warm welcome and introduction of the distinguished resource persons. Mr. Praveen Kumar, an expert in CNC/VMC machines the first session and second session was led by Mr. Pankaj Kumar, the CEO of Global Technology, who brought his industrial expertise into the classroom by guiding students.

The session was divided into two parts:

Theoretical Session

  • Introduction to CNC/VMC machines
  • Axis systems and coordinate referencing
  • Tools, tool holders, and setup methods
  • G-codes, M-codes, and basic part programming logic

Hands-on Session

  • Live demonstration of part programming
  • Machine setup, tool setting, and dry run
  • Execution of jobs on VMC
  • Safety protocols during operation

Both sessions were highly interactive, with students actively participating, asking questions, and applying their learning in real-time. The involvement of experienced professionals gave the participants valuable insights into industry standards and expectations.
