The session was conducted by Dr. Surabhi Chhabra, Consultant and Head of Emergency and Trauma at Yatharth Super Speciality Hospitals, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM in the New Auditorium.

The event, tailored for MBA students of Healthcare Management and Operations, offered deep insights into the strategic frameworks and operational protocols essential for managing hospital emergencies and disaster situations. Dr. Chhabra shared valuable real-life experiences and practical approaches to managing trauma cases, handling resource constraints, ensuring rapid response, and coordinating interdisciplinary teams during critical incidents. She also highlighted the importance of mental health and resilience during crisis management.

Her expertise highlighted the importance of emergency preparedness, including the value of drills, triage protocols, and the necessity of robust operational systems to ensure continuity of care during crises. On 19th June 2025 (Thursday), the School of Business at Galgotias University organised a highly impactful and insightful guest lecture on the topic “Operations Strategy for Emergency and Disaster Management in Hospitals”, aimed at MBA students specialising in Healthcare Management and Operations. The event took place from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM in the New Auditorium. It was meticulously coordinated by Dr. Vivek Aggarwal, Division Chair – Operations, and Ms. Adyasa Padhi, Assistant Professor – Healthcare Management.

The distinguished speaker for the session was Dr. Surabhi Chhabra, Consultant and Head of Emergency and Trauma at Yatharth Super Speciality Hospitals, Greater Noida. Dr. Chhabra, an expert in emergency care with years of clinical and administrative experience, shared invaluable insights into how hospitals can strategically prepare for and manage emergency and disaster situations, including mass casualty incidents, natural calamities, and pandemics.

The session began with a warm welcome and an impactful address by the Respected Dean of SOB, Dr. Jaganath Mohanty, followed by Dr. Chhabra’s engaging address, which emphasised the critical importance of robust operational frameworks in emergency preparedness. She elaborated on the key pillars of emergency management—preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation—and discussed how hospitals must adopt a holistic and systems-based approach to handle crises effectively. She highlighted the importance of interdepartmental coordination, triage systems, infrastructure readiness, staff training, and real-time decision-making in emergency scenarios. Dr. Chhabra also shed light on the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS), disaster codes, emergency drills, and how these protocols play a crucial role in minimizing casualties and maintaining continuity of care.

Drawing from her extensive experience in the emergency and trauma department, Dr. Chhabra shared real-life case studies of disaster response, illustrating the operational challenges faced and the strategic interventions implemented. Her narrative not only underscored the need for leadership and communication during high-pressure situations but also emphasised the role of hospital administrators and operations professionals in disaster planning and recovery. The session was highly interactive, with students actively engaging in a Q&A session, asking questions about resource allocation, emergency Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), patient tracking during disasters, and coordination with external agencies, such as the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). Dr. Chhabra’s responses were practical and informative, providing clarity on the real-world applications of operational strategies in crisis settings.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to Dr. Chhabra for her time, expertise, and inspiration. The organizing faculty, Dr. Aggarwal and Ms. Padhi, also appreciated the students' enthusiastic participation and highlighted the importance of such industry-academic interactions in preparing future leaders in healthcare management and operations.
