Detailed Description – 

The Galgotias School of Architecture and Design (SOAD) conducted an educational and insightful field trip for the first and second year students of the B.Design (Interior Design) program to Kirti Nagar, New Delhi, which is recognised as the largest and most diverse furniture market in India. The objective of this immersive experience was to provide students with a firsthand comprehension of design trends, materials, craftsmanship, and market dynamics, thereby bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world industry exposure.

Kirti Nagar is a vibrant ecosystem of multi-national home remodelling and fittings companies, reputed interior design boutiques, premium imported kitchen and bath brands, and traditional carpentry and bespoke furniture workshops, serving as a centre of innovation and tradition. The visit afforded students a distinctive chance to investigate a diverse array of interior components, such as furniture, fixtures, modular kitchens, lighting solutions, soft furnishings, and sustainable materials.

During the visit, students engaged with showroom professionals, craftsmen, and designers, acquiring valuable insights into the significance of space planning and functionality, current industry practices, and client requirements. In addition, they observed the integration of design aesthetics with utility to establish harmonious interior environments. The field excursion functioned as an experiential learning platform, allowing students to:

  • Examine a variety of furniture designs, including those that are handcrafted, classic, and minimalist, as well as those that are contemporary and minimalist.
  • Comprehend the various materials, coatings, textures, and joinery techniques employed in the production of interior elements.
  • Investigate the strategies for branding, product display, and consumer engagement that are implemented in high-end showrooms.
