The Department of Biomedical Sciences, School of Biosciences and Technology, Galgotias University, organized a Guest Lecture on Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) on 17th October 2025. The session was graced by Ms. Sandhya Soni, CDPO, Dankour, Gautam Buddha Nagar, ICDS, Department of Women & Child Development. The lecture aimed to enhance students’ understanding of the functioning, objectives, and implementation of ICDS, one of India’s flagship programs for child and maternal welfare.

Event Detailed Description

The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Priyanka Singh, who extended heartfelt greetings to the guest speaker and highlighted the significance of ICDS in addressing malnutrition and promoting community health.

Ms. Sandhya Soni delivered an informative session on the objectives, services, and impact of the ICDS scheme, covering key areas such as supplementary nutrition, health check-ups, immunization, non-formal preschool education, and health education for women. She elaborated on the crucial role of Anganwadi Centres in implementing ICDS at the grassroots level, ensuring holistic development of children under six years and improving maternal health outcomes.

She shared practical experiences from her fieldwork, emphasizing the challenges faced in rural implementation, community mobilization strategies, and the importance of interdepartmental coordination. The lecture also highlighted the importance of nutrition education, maternal health awareness, and early childhood care as foundational steps toward national development.

The event was overall coordinated by Dr Ananta Shrivastava, who ensured smooth organisation and active student engagement. Faculty members Dr Garima Singh, Dr Deepika Pal, and Dr Soniya Mor were also present and actively participated in the session. Students from B.Sc. and M.Sc. Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics, Food Sciences and Dietetics and Healthcare and Clinical Research attended the lecture enthusiastically, interacting with the speaker and gaining practical insights into community nutrition programs.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the guest speaker for sharing her expertise and to the university for providing a platform to bridge academic learning with real-world application.
