Description

The Center for AI & Technology and the Center for IP & Innovation at the School of Law, Galgotias University, jointly organized a One-Day Hybrid Workshop on Patent & Trademark Search and Filing on 22nd April 2025. The workshop was held from 11:00 AM to 01:30 PM at Venue A-207 and attracted an enthusiastic audience comprising law students, faculty members, and professionals from the field of intellectual property law.

The objective of the workshop was to familiarize participants with the foundational and practical aspects of patent and trademark search techniques and filing procedures. As the significance of intellectual property continues to grow in today's innovation-driven economy, understanding these processes has become crucial for future legal professionals. This workshop served as a gateway for students to engage with real-world practices in IP law and to appreciate its relevance in various industries.

The event featured two distinguished speakers with significant expertise in intellectual property rights. The first session was conducted by Dr. Nimisha K., Associate IPR at SCTIMST and a Registered Patent & Trademark Agent. Dr. Nimisha offered a comprehensive overview of the patent filing process, covering essential aspects such as patentability criteria, patent search databases, drafting techniques, and procedural formalities involved in registration. Her session was rich in practical examples and provided a hands-on understanding of how theoretical knowledge is applied in actual legal and technical scenarios.

The second session was led by Adv. Aditi Mendiratta, a Legal Associate at Scriboard and a specialist in IP and Technology Law. She focused on trademark law, outlining the process for conducting trademark searches, assessing brand distinctiveness, and filing applications with the appropriate authorities. She also discussed contemporary challenges in the field, including the impact of digital platforms, domain disputes, and the enforcement of IP rights in the age of e-commerce. Her presentation encouraged critical thinking and awareness of how legal frameworks are evolving with technology.

Throughout the workshop, students actively participated by asking questions, sharing perspectives, and engaging in dynamic discussions with the speakers. This interactivity not only made the sessions more enriching but also created a space for experiential learning beyond the classroom.

The success of the workshop was made possible through the visionary guidance of Dr. Aditya Tomer, Dean, School of Law, whose support played a crucial role in facilitating this knowledge-sharing platform. The efforts of all the members of both the Centres were also instrumental in ensuring smooth coordination and logistics.

In conclusion, the workshop achieved its aim of promoting awareness and understanding of intellectual property laws. It empowered students with valuable insights and practical skills and reinforced the importance of legal protection for innovation in today’s knowledge-based economy.
