Event Detailed Description: The Department of Forensic Science at the School of Biosciences and Technology, Galgotias University, recently hosted the 7th Forensis Agora International Conference, titled "Beyond the Evidence: Reflecting on Forensic Innovations to Shape the Future of Criminal Justice," held on the 8th and 9th of February 2025. This landmark event was a significant platform for professionals, academicians, and industry leaders to converge and deliberate on the latest advancements in forensic science and their role in shaping the future of criminal justice systems worldwide.

As the 7th edition of the Forensis Agora Conference, this year's gathering was themed around the critical intersection of forensic science and the evolving landscape of criminal law. The focus of the conference was to explore the implications of "The New Criminal Laws" on forensic investigations and the overall judicial framework. This theme came at a time when the Indian legal system is undergoing major reforms with the introduction of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, and Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 —a set of new legislative frameworks aimed at modernizing and strengthening criminal law and justice processes. These laws reflect a broader commitment to integrating forensic science more effectively into the legal system, and the conference provided an important space for critical discussions about their practical applications and challenges.

The event was marked by the participation of a diverse group of experts, bringing together over 150 research papers, reviews, and posters submitted by academic institutions, forensic laboratories, and professionals across the country. A total of 33 collaborators were involved in organizing the conference, with 23 academic institutions and 10 industry leaders contributing to the event's success. Among the notable institutions represented were Galgotias University, KR Mangalam University, SGT University, TMU, Uttaranchal University, National Forensic Science University, Integral University, Invertis University, and the Government Institute of Forensic Science, Nagpur. Additionally, forensic laboratories from Delhi, Moradabad, Jodhpur, and Patna, as well as universities like Vivekananda Global University and Jaipur National University, were actively engaged in the proceedings. This collaborative effort underscored the multidisciplinary nature of forensic science, which spans the realms of law, medicine, technology, and research.

The conference featured a wide range of sessions, including keynote addresses, technical sessions, and poster presentations, all designed to showcase the latest research, innovations, and emerging trends in forensic science. The exchange of ideas covered various domains such as digital forensics, forensic biology, toxicology, and advancements in forensic investigation tools and techniques.

One of the most engaging elements of the conference were the panel discussions, which allowed experts to explore complex legal and ethical issues in depth. Notably, two significant discussions stood out: “Decriminalization of Suicide Attempt,” and “New Criminal Laws” focusing on the recent updates in Indian criminal legislation. The former panel addressed the evolving perspectives on mental health, societal attitudes, and the legal implications of suicide attempts, while the latter delved into the implications of the newly enacted Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, and Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023, examining how these laws might impact forensic practices and investigations. These discussions were pivotal in bridging the gap between forensic science and legal reforms, emphasizing the need for a dynamic approach to justice that incorporates scientific advancements.

Overall, the Forensis Agora 2025 Conference was a tremendous success, offering a platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange among forensic scientists, legal professionals, and industry experts. It also highlighted the growing importance of forensic innovations in shaping the future of criminal justice, particularly in the context of new laws and evolving investigative methods. The event reaffirmed the integral role of forensic science in promoting justice and supporting fair, evidence-based decision-making in the criminal justice system.
