Event Date:  21-09-2025

Event brief description

On 21st September 2025, Galgotias University in collaboration with Divya Multispecialty Hospital, Dankaur, organized a Community Awareness Program on the theme “Ask About Dementia, Ask About Alzheimer’s.” The program was conducted to mark World Alzheimer’s Day, a day observed globally to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia-related conditions. The initiative was aimed at educating the local community, patients, and caregivers about the signs, symptoms, prevention strategies, and management of Alzheimer’s disease, which is one of the most common forms of dementia. The event also focused on encouraging people to overcome the stigma attached to memory-related disorders and to seek timely medical intervention.

Event Detailed Description

The event began with a warm welcome by the hospital authorities and faculty members of Galgotias University. The dignitaries emphasized the importance of community participation in addressing the growing concern of Alzheimer’s disease in society.

Faculty Session on Dementia and Alzheimer’s

The first session was conducted by a faculty member from Galgotias University who shed light on the topic. The speaker provided a detailed explanation of dementia and Alzheimer’s, highlighting the difference between normal age-related memory loss and the progressive decline caused by Alzheimer’s disease. The faculty explained that Alzheimer’s is a neurodegenerative condition that affects memory, reasoning, behavior, and daily functioning. The causes, risk factors, and possible preventive measures were elaborated in simple language so that even the lay public could understand. Stress was given to early diagnosis and lifestyle modifications, which can delay the progression of the disease.

Student Skit on Signs, Symptoms, and Prevention

To make the session more engaging and interactive, students of Galgotias University performed a short skit based on real-life scenarios of patients suffering from Alzheimer’s. The skit showcased:

  • The early signs and symptoms such as memory loss, confusion about time and place, difficulty in completing familiar tasks, and changes in mood or personality.
  • The progressive symptoms where patients may forget names of close relatives, lose the ability to communicate effectively, and require assistance in daily activities.
  • Preventive strategies such as regular physical activity, mental exercises, a balanced diet, social interaction, and regular medical check-ups.

Health Education Session by Students

After the skit, students delivered a health education session to further clarify the important aspects of Alzheimer’s. They explained that if Alzheimer’s is not addressed in time, it can become life-threatening due to complications such as infections, immobility, and difficulty in swallowing.

The program was attended by a large number of community members, patients, caregivers, and healthcare workers from Dankaur and nearby areas. The audience actively participated in the question-and-answer session, where they asked about the availability of treatment options, ways to identify early warning signs, and how to manage patients at home.

Implementation

The Community Awareness Program on “Ask About Dementia, Ask About Alzheimer’s” successfully achieved its objective of sensitizing the community about Alzheimer’s disease. The combined efforts of Galgotias University and Divya Multispeciality Hospital created a platform where both medical experts and students could contribute to spreading health education in a simple, effective, and engaging manner.
