School of Law, Galgotias University, feels immense pride in announcing the “Certificate Course on Advanced Professional Advocacy Skills” for twelve weeks from 26th November, 2022 for law students.
This Certificate Course has been designed by Justice J.R. Midha, Professor Emeritus who encourages value additions in legal education and professional advocacy standards. It shall include amongst other aspects; Communication Skills, Rational Thinking, Court Room Psychology, Fundamentals of Law, Integration of Laws, and Mock Trials. Eminent experts will take the classes to provide practical understanding.

This Advanced Course is open to all law students. The students can apply for this Certificate Course by submitting the application online.
The Students who opt for this course will be given preference for internship under Justic J.R. Midha and other Resource persons.
Theme of the Course
The theme of the course is to equip law students with Advanced Professional Advocacy Skills.
This course aims to provide additional knowledge of practical aspects to the law students to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical aspects to enable them to get a good start in their legal career.

JUSTICE J.R. MIDHA
Former Judge of Delhi High Court
Justice J.R. Midha, former Judge of Delhi High Court is the Professor Emeritus and Advisor of Galgotias University. Justice Midha has initiated reforms in the legal education with stress on Communication Skills, Rational Thinking and Fundamentals of Law. He is imparting value based education to law students. Justice Midha has designed the “Certificate Course on Professional Advocacy Skills” for imparting specialized training to the law students/ law graduates who want to practice in Courts.
Justice J.R. Midha served as a Judge of Delhi High Court for more than 13 years from 11th April, 2008 to 7th July, 2021. He served as the Chairperson of Delhi International Arbitration Centre (DIAC) and Member of the Sub-Committee of Supreme Court on use of Artificial Intelligence in MACT cases. He also served as the Chairperson of Judicial Education and Training Programme Committee of High Court of Delhi and undertook innovative steps for judicial training of Judges at Delhi Judicial Academy. He was also a Member of Advisory Board of Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activities Act, 1974 (COFEPOSA) for a number of years. He also presided over the Tribunal under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 relating to United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) in 2012.
Before elevation, Justice Midha practiced Law for 26 years from 1982 to 2008 before various Courts including Supreme Court, Delhi High Court and other High Courts. He also appeared as a counsel before the Arbitrators/Arbitral Tribunals. He represented Govt. of NCT of Delhi as Standing Counsel (Civil) before the High Court of Delhi from May, 2006 until elevation as a Judge in April, 2008.
Justice Midha taught Law at Campus Law Centre, Faculty of Law, Delhi University from 1989 to 1992 and taught various subjects including Code of Civil Procedure, Indian Evidence Act, Transfer of Property Act, Delhi Rent Control Act, Limitation Act, Arbitration Act, Motor Vehicles Act, Court Fees Act, Suit Valuation Act, Indian Registration Act, and Indian Stamp Act. He authored and compiled the synopsis and case material on the subjects of “Pleading and Conveyancing” and “Motor Accident Compensation” for Campus Law Centre. While teaching, he took the initiative of organizing a Lok Adalat for Motor Accidents Cases in Campus Law Centre in 1991 in which the compensation was computed by Law students and the computation was submitted to the Lok Adalat Judges in advance to assist the claimants in obtaining fair compensation. Even after elevation to the Bench, he continued to visit various law schools to deliver guest lectures. He has been a resource person for training of Judges in National Judicial Academy as well as State Judicial Academies. He has been appointed by the Delhi High Court as an Administrator of Shri Kalkaji Mandir, New Delhi.
As a Judge, Justice Midha, dealt with cases of various jurisdictions and rendered several landmark judgments. He lives by and has worked on the principle that Justice is Truth in Action; truth is the foundation of justice; and dispensation of justice, based on truth, is an essential feature in the justice delivery system. He laid down the principles relating to Search for Truth in Ved Prakash Kharbanda v. Vimal Bindal, (2013) 198 DLT 555. His quotation “In the Court of Justice, both the parties know the truth, it’s the judge who’s on trial” in his retirement speech became viral on social media.
Justice Midha actively initiated judicial reforms in various jurisdictions namely, Arbitration, Motor Accident Claims, Execution Cases, Maintenance in Matrimonial Cases, Compensation to Victims of Crime, Prosecution for False Claims, Proclaimed Offenders, etc.Justice Midha has written books on Motor Accident Claims Compensation and Amendments to the Code of Civil Procedure.
SUMEET PUSHKARNA
Sumeet Pushkarna, Advocate has done his Masters degree in Advocacy Skills with distinction from the United Kingdom. He has been a member of the fellowship program conducted by the Institute of Constitutional and Parliamentary studies at New Delhi. He has also been an Advisor to many governmental and statutory bodies.
He has extensive litigation experience of over 26 years. He has been the Standing Counsel at the Delhi High Court for various Governmental and Statutory bodies including Election Commission of India and Central Government. He has vast experience in Civil Litigation and has represented various organisations in Arbitrations. He has assisted the various higher Courts as an Amicus and a Court Commissioner in many important causes and cases.
SUMIT CHANDER
Sumit Chander, Advocate is a practicing lawyer at the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court of India. His area of practice includes all kinds Civil and Commercial Cases ranging from Arbitration, Property, Matrimonial, Recoveries, Writ Petitions, Public Interest Litigations, etc. He has been a lawyer for the Delhi Government and the Government of India for many years. He has handled cases for corporate clients such as Godrej, Mahindra, MTNL.
He has been appointed as an Arbitrator by the Delhi High Court in several cases. He is a Mediator with the Delhi High Court Mediation & Conciliation Centre also known as ‘Samadhan’. He has done an advance Mediation Training Program from Pepperdine University, California (USA). He has been accredited in Commercial Mediation by the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs. He was awarded the National Law Day Award by Dr. Justice K.G. Balakrishnan, Former Chief Justice of India for his erudition and vast experience which played a pivotal role in development and recognition of International Mediation and Arbitration.
He is frequently invited as a legal expert on various national news channel such as India Today News, Aajtak, etc. He was the counsel in the famous Public Interest Litigation which led to establishing 40 new Courts in Delhi and this was recorded in various national News Papers.

Delivery of the Course
1. The twelve weeks course shall include classes on University Campus and at-home preparation for each class.
2. Attendance in all in-campus classes shall be mandatory to obtain the Certificate.
3. Mobiles should remain in aeroplane mode or switched off during the in-campus class duration.
4. Recording/taking photos of the course is strictly prohibited.

ABOUT THE COURSE
Galgotias University, with the support and guidance of Shri Rodney D. Ryder, Founding Partner, Scriboard [Advocates and Legal Consultants] feels immense pride in announcing the “Certificate Programme on Informational Technology Law and Practice”.
This certificate course will provide an overview of the legal framework for cybersecurity in India, including an introduction to the Information Technology Act, 2000 and its amendment in 2008. The course will also cover emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence [‘AI’], Blockchain, and the Internet of Things [‘IoT’] and their impact on cyber law in India.
Through lectures, discussions, and case studies, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the legal issues surrounding the use and protection of personal data in the digital age. Additionally, the course will provide an introduction to the rights and responsibilities of individuals, businesses, and government entities under Indian cyber law.

ABOUT THE INDUSTRY EXPERT
Mr. Rodney D. Ryder is a lawyer with over two and a half decades of experience in Technology, Data Privacy, Intellectual Property and New Media Laws. He is the Founding Partner of Scriboard, a full-service commercial law firm with cutting edge specialization in technology, new media and intellectual property laws. He is the author of Guide to Cyber Laws: the Information Technology Act, 2000, E-Commerce, Data Protection and the Internet, the first section-wise analysis of the Indian Information Technology Act, 2000. He is presently Advisor to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India on the implementation of the Information Technology Act, 2000. He counsels a wide range of clients from start-ups to the Fortune 100 and represents them in litigation regarding technology law, data security, compliance with law enforcement and intellectual property strategy. He is on the Board and Advisor to leading companies. He is regularly interviewed and widely quoted by Indian and International media on technology, intellectual property, and new media laws.
Mr. Ryder was educated at St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi where he studied an Honors Degree in History. He secured the Gold Medal for the first rank in the University and at College was awarded several coveted prizes such as the Westcott Memorial History Prize and Percival Spear Memorial Prize. He studied Law at the Campus Law Centre, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi.
Mr. Ryder has been nominated as a 'Leading Lawyer' in intellectual property, technology, communications and media law by Asia Law, Who'sWhoLegal, Asia Legal 500, amongst other International publications. Mr. Ryder has been listed as one of India’s leading lawyers in the ’40 under 45’ study conducted by Who’sWhoLegal, United Kingdom. In 2021, Mr. Ryder was listed in ‘Super 50 TMT’ list of leading TMT lawyers in Asia published by Asian Legal Business.
His second book, Intellectual Property and the Internet [published by LexisNexis] has been acknowledged to be an authoritative work on domain name disputes by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India and has been quoted in the first and only judgement by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India on domain names [Satyam Infoway Ltd. v. Sifynet Solutions Pvt. Ltd.; (2004) 6 SCC 145].
He has been and is Adjunct Professor / Visiting Faculty to the Campus Law Centre, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi, the CBI Academy [Ghaziabad], the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow [IIML]. The Indian Institute of Technology [Kharagpur], the Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology, Hyderabad, NALSAR, Hyderabad, the National Law School of India University [NLSIU], Bangalore and the National Law University [NLU], Jodhpur.
THEME OF THE COURSE
The “Information Technology Law and Practice” certificate course is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the legal framework and regulations governing the use of technology in India. The course theme focuses on the intersections of law and technology and aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complex legal landscape of the digital world. Topics covered include data privacy, cybersecurity, intellectual property rights, e-commerce, and cybercrime. By the end of the course, participants will have a firm grasp of the key principles and practical applications of the law in this dynamic and rapidly evolving field.
OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE
This course is being introduced to imbibe the students with the following skills:
1. To provide a comprehensive overview of the legal framework and regulations governing the use of technology in India.
2. To familiarize participants with the key principles and practical applications of cyber law and information technology law.
3. To equip participants with a strong understanding of data privacy, cybersecurity, intellectual property rights, e-commerce, and cybercrime.
4. To foster critical thinking skills and the ability to analyse legal issues related to technology.
5. To provide participants with hands-on experience in applying legal principles and regulations in real- world situations.
6. To develop participants' ability to effectively communicate and negotiate legal issues related to technology.
7. To prepare participants for a career in the fields of cyber law, information technology law, and related areas.
DURATION OF THE COURSE
The Course will be split into a Basics Certificate Course and an Advanced Diploma Programme, with admission to the former being dependent on the student’s performance throughout the Basics Course. The Basics Course [Weeks 1-4] will provide an introduction to the legal and regulatory framework surrounding the use and development of technology in India. Topics covered will include data privacy and security, intellectual property, e-commerce, and emerging technologies such as blockchain and artificial intelligence. The course will also cover the role of government and private sector in regulating and promoting the use of technology in India.
