About the Programme

This is to inform all the concerned that as envisaged in NEP2020, the University has introduced a 4-year Undergraduate (UG) Degree (Honours with Research) from the academic year 2022-23

The students who secure 75% marks or a 7.5 CGPA and above, in the first six semesters, and wish to undertake research at the UG level can choose a research stream in the fourth year.

Such students should do a research project or dissertation under the guidance of a faculty member of the University. The research project/dissertation will be in the major discipline. The students who secure 160 credits, including 12 credits from a research project/dissertation, are awarded a 4-year UG Degree (Honours with Research).

#In the event, students fail to secure 75% marks or a 7.5 CGPA in the first six semesters, they will be awarded a 4-year UG Degree with Honours only. In addition, students not undertaking research will do 3 courses for 12 credits in lieu of a research project / Dissertation.

Students will attain proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in Japanese at the intermediate to advanced levels, as measured by standardized language proficiency test or equivalen.

Students will develop a deep understanding of Japanese culture, including its history, arts, societal norms, and contemporary issues. They will demonstrate cultural sensitivity and adaptability in cross-cultural interactions and demonstrate an appreciation for the diversity of Japanese cultural expressions.

Students will develop critical thinking skills through the analysis and interpretation of various forms of Japanese media, including literature, film, art, and digital content. They will be able to critically evaluate cultural texts, identify underlying themes and perspectives, and articulate their insights effectively.

Students will enhance their communicative competence in Japanese through participation in authentic communicative activities, such as debates, presentations, role-plays, and group discussions. They will demonstrate the ability to express themselves fluently and coherently in both formal and informal contexts.

Students will acquire research skills relevant to the field of Japanese studies, including the ability to locate and evaluate primary and secondary sources, conduct independent research projects, and present their findings in a scholarly manner. They will develop a foundation for further study and research in Japanese language, literature, and culture.
