Master of Design (M.Des.) in Interior and Spatial Design

   Department of Design

Programme Level

Post Graduate

Duration

2 Years

About the Programme

The M.Des. in Interior and Spatial Design prepares designers to shape human-centred, sustainable and culturally resonant interior environments—from single-room interventions to large, mixed-use adaptive-reuse projects. Students develop a synthesis of spatial thinking, material innovation, lighting, furniture systems, building-code literacy and digital workflows (BIM, parametric modelling, VR/AR). Live studios, community partnerships and industry collaborations anchor learning in real contexts, while research seminars cultivate critical perspectives on wellbeing, heritage, and environmental stewardship.

What Students Will Learn

  • Spatial planning & ergonomics
  • History & theory of interiors and adaptive reuse
  • Advanced materials, finishes & furniture systems
  • Lighting & environmental comfort
  • Digital design workflows: BIM, parametric/algorithmic modelling, VR visualisation
  • Sustainability, green building codes, circular design strategies
  • Professional practice, project management & entrepreneurship
