Lab Facilities

FAB LAB has been set up to inspire people and entrepreneurs to turn their ideas into new products and prototypes by giving them access to a range of advanced digital manufacturing technology. This lab is equipped with flexible CNC controlled machines such as CNC Router, CNC Cutter, Laser Engraver, 3D Printer, Table top CNC lathe and milling as well as 3D scanner  that cover fabrication over several length scales. Students can work on these machines for prototype design and development for participation in competitions like Toycathons and Hackathons. The total cost of this lab is around 38 lakhs.

If we go in detail, CNC Router and Laser cutter transforms 2 D drawing into prototype which covers range of materials like MDF, Acrylic, Leather, and thin Aluminium etc. These machines are used in small scale prototype development, interior designing etc.

Table top CNC machines are used to perform small scale turning, facing, taper turning, slot cutting, engraving and many operations over wood, brass, steel, aluminium etc. These machines also serve as trainer kit for CNC programming.

In the context of additive manufacturing and reverse engineering, we have 3 D printers which is used for rapid prototyping in which prototype can be generated from 3 D CAD model as per the requirement in terms of quality. On the other hand , in order to enhance the productivity and reduce cost in design, reverse engineering technology is being applied in which the existing component is scanned using 3 D scanner and the design is modified to create new prototype using 3 D printer.

Fluid Mechanics Lab

  1. Bernoulli’s Theorem apparatus

Bernoulli’s Theorem apparatus is mainly composed of a circular section conduit with shape of at truncated cone, transparent and with seven pressure taps to   measure, simultaneously, the static pressure of each section. All the pressure taps are connected to a manometer with a water collector (water might be pressurized). The ends of the conduits are removable, enabling to be placed in either convergent or divergent form with respect to the stream direction. There is also a probe (Pitot’s tube) moving along the conduit or measuring the height in every section (dynamic pressure). Adjusting the control valve located at the end of the module can modify the flow rate and the pressure in the module. A flexible hose attached to the outlet pipe is directed to the volumetric measuring tank. For the operation, the module is placed on the Hydraulics bench top It has adjustable legs for leveling. The inlet pipe ends in a female coupling, which may be directly connected to the bench supply.
