Program Theme

The workshop on “Memorial Drafting” was conducted on 11th March 2025, from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. It was designed to provide students with a deeper understanding of mooting, memorial drafting, and effective legal argumentation. The workshop also marked an important initiative by the Moot Court Society (MCS) to enhance students’ research and drafting skills, preparing them for competitive mooting at national and international levels.

The theme centered on exploring memorial drafting as the foundation of strongadvocacy, emphasizing the significance of legal research, structured arguments, and persuasive writing. The session covered essential elements of a well-drafted memorial, including case law analysis, statutory interpretations, formatting standards, and citation techniques (Bluebook & OSCOLA). It also highlighted common mistakes and best practices to refine written submissions in moot court competitions.

OPENING ADDRESS BY FACULTY CONVENOR, MCS, SCHOOL OF LAW- PROF. (DR.) RAJAT DIXIT.

Rajat Dixit Sir emphasized the critical role of legal research and structuredargumentsin effective memorial drafting. He highlighted how meticulous drafting can impactcase outcomes and encouraged students to develop a habit of precision, clarity, and persuasive legal writing. His address also touched upon the importance of learning from past moots, refining drafting techniques, and continuously improving argumentation strategies.

Yash Sir set the tone for the workshop with an inspiring legal quote, emphasizing the significance of strong legal drafting and analytical reasoning in mooting. He provided an outline of the workshop’s objectives, which included introducing students to memorial drafting, mooting essentials, and competition strategies. He concluded his address by encouraging students to actively engage and enhance their legal research and drafting skills.

Yash Sir led an in-depth session on the fundamentals of memorial drafting, covering:

  • Understanding Moot Problems: Breaking down legal issues, identifying arguments.
  • Legal Research & Structuring Arguments: Case laws, statutory interpretations, and logical flow.
  • Drafting Essentials: Formatting, citations (Bluebook & OSCOLA), and persuasive writing.
  • Common Mistakes & Best Practices: Avoiding redundancy, structuring coherent arguments.

Each concept was explained with clarity and practical examples from national and international moot competitions.

INTERACTIVE MEMORIAL DISCUSSION

To engage participants, a sample moot memorial was provided for group discussions. Students analyzed the legal issues, brainstormed arguments, and discussed drafting strategies. Yash Sir enriched the discussion with real-life moot court examples, connecting theory with practice.
