Value Added Program on “Heartfullness Enabled Leadership Mastery (HELM)

The Heartfulness Enabled Leadership Mastery (HELM) course was successfully conducted for BA-II year students, aiming to equip them with essential life skills for personal and professional excellence. The course commenced with a one day induction program, followed by a 08-week life-skills course. This foundational leadership program included modules such as 'Discover', 'Develop', 'Deepen', and 'Dedicate', delivered through experiential sessions by certified Heartfulness trainers. Each session lasted 60-90 minutes and was designed to instill resilience, optimize attention, and enhance decision-making skills among the participants.

Objectives

The primary objectives of the HELM course were to:

  1. Develop resilience, optimize attention, and enhance decision-making skills.
  2. Foster a growth mindset by focusing on self-improvement rather than competition.
  3. Prepare students for excellence in their academic and professional endeavors.

Session Initiation

The sessions were initiated by Prof. (Dr.) Anuradha Parasar, Dean SLE, alongside external experts Mr. Rupesh Sharma, Sr. Vice President of United Bio-Tech; Mr. Mani Raman, Advisor at Peach Tree Management (USA, UAE, India); and Ms. Arpita Bohra from Operations and Business Management in a leading corporate house. Dr. Shadab A Ansari coordinated the course, which saw active participation from students of Psychology, Sociology, Economics, Political Science, and English.

Session Details

The course covered a variety of topics, starting with an introduction to the Heartfulness Institute, providing students with an understanding of the organization's approach and intentions behind its practices. This was followed by sessions on self-reflection, where students explored their aspirations and strengths, fostering a paradigm shift in behavior and self-perception. The concept of causality was also addressed, enhancing students' problem-solving and decision-making abilities by helping them identify the underlying causes of issues.

Time management and focus were key components of the course. Students learned to improve their attention quality and manage their time efficiently, crucial skills for academic and professional success. Additionally, techniques for managing stress and anger through meditation were taught, which contributed to students' overall well-being and peak performance.

Sessions on healthy lifestyle management emphasized the adoption of beneficial habits, aiding in sustained personal growth. Students were introduced to tools for breaking long-term habits and cultivating new, positive ones. The course also delved into balanced decision-making, where students learned to expand their internal space for judicious decisions, boosting their confidence and clarity.

Heartful communication skills were another focus area, with students being introduced to empathetic listening, which is essential for building strong personal and professional relationships. The art and cultural aspects of meditation were explored, deepening students' understanding and appreciation of the practice. Topics such as character versus personality, life balance, and designing one's destiny were also covered, helping students make informed choices and self-directed growth.

The course concluded with sessions on practicing the pause, teaching students the importance of pausing before reacting, a crucial skill for emotional intelligence. The entire program was assessed based on rubrics, and students who successfully completed the course received digital or paper certificates.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the HELM course, students achieved the following outcomes:

  1. Familiarity with major counselling approaches, including psychodynamic, cognitive, and behavioral techniques.
  2. Ability to identify appropriate counselling techniques for specific conditions.
  3. Core competencies in Counselling Psychology practice.
