Student workshop on data science using python

Event Date: 19th - 23th February 2024

An event was organized with the agenda to introduce basics of data science and python, data manipulation, visualization and analysis with python, a brief introduction to machine learning (ML) and learn machine learning with scikit-learn and practical implementation for the students. This was a 5-day event in association with Brainovision and AICTE through virtual mode. 174 Institutes participated in the workshop. Dr. Buddha Chandrasekhar Chief Coordinating Officer – AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) was the Chief Guest of the Workshop with an eminent guest delivering a session each day.

Day 1

The workshop commenced with the prayer song and introduction to Brainovision along with the host colleges. Later there was an inauguration speech by the chief guest. Details of the session are as follows:
Session 1:
The participants were introduced to the fundamentals of data science and the role it plays across various industries. Additionally, they learnt the basics of Python programming, covering topics such as Python variables, data types, and basic operations.

Day 2 - Data Manipulation and Visualization

Session 1:
Participants learnt about data manipulation using Python, focusing on working with different data structures like lists, dictionaries, and pandas data frames. They also gained insights into data loading and manipulation techniques.

Session 2:

The participants were introduced to data visualization concepts and techniques. They learnt how to create charts and graphs using libraries like Matplotlib to effectively visualize data.

Day 3 Data Analysis with Python

Participants explored data analysis using the Pandas library in Python. Topics included data cleaning and preparation, as well as exploratory data analysis (EDA) using Pandas.

Day 4 Introduction to Machine Learning

In this session, participants understood machine learning concepts. They learnt about supervised vs. unsupervised learning and the basics of building machine learning models.

Day 5 Machine Learning with Scikit-Learn and Practical Implementation

Participants were introduced to the Scikit-Learn library for machine learning in Python. They learnt how to build, train, and evaluate machine learning models, and apply machine learning techniques to a real-world dataset.
