The Moot Court Society (MCS) of Galgotias University organized an induction program for 1st-year law students on 4th October 2024. The event aimed at familiarizing students with the workings of MCS and the critical skills necessary for effective participation in moot court competitions. The event featured presentations by key members of the MCS, including Mr. Rajat Dixit, the Convenor of MCS, who provided an overview of the importance of drafting, research, and public speaking skills. Additionally, the President and Vice President of MCS shared insights into the structure and rules of the various competitions organized by the society. The event also included a mock moot court session conducted by senior members, providing a practical demonstration of courtroom procedures and memorial drafting. To conclude, a creative story writing and storytelling session was held, encouraging student participation. This induction event not only served as an introduction to the society but also laid the foundation for the student’s involvement in future events, competitions, and skill development programs.

OPENING SPEECH-: MR. RAJAT DIXIT, FACULTY CONVENOR, MCS)

The Faculty Convenor, Mr. Rajat Dixit of the Moot Court Society, Galgotias University emphasized the importance of mastering legal skills such as drafting, research, and public speaking for successful mooting. He also explained the courtroom etiquette and procedures essential for any law student. Furthermore, Mr. Dixit provided an overview of the flagship competitions that the society organizes, including the Intra Moot Court, International Moot Court Competition, Mock Trial Competition, and more. These competitions are designed to help students acquire the practical skills needed for a successful legal career.

PRESIDENT- MR. PRAKHAR PRAJAPATI

The President of the MCS shared details about the structure of moot court competitions, including the process of forming teams, preparing memorials, and adhering to competition rules. The President also highlighted the importance of discipline, particularly in the Challenger Round, which serves as a critical phase of the competition.

VICE-PRESIDENT-: MR. AMIT MISHRA

The Vice President then took the stage to provide a more detailed explanation of memorials and introduced the Friday Programs, which are designed to further hone students' legal skills through regular events such as the Legal Story Program. This was followed by a practical demonstration led by Muskan Verma and Pratistha Singh, who conducted a mock moot court session and explained the key elements of memorial drafting and courtroom etiquette.

MOCK MOOT COURT SESSION BY PRATISHTHA AND MUSKAN

Pratishtha Singh and Muskan Verma conducted a mock moot court session to introduce 1st-year students to the fundamentals of mooting.

The session began with a detailed presentation of a memorial, where Muskan explained the essential components such as the cover page, statement of facts, legal issues, arguments advanced, and prayer for relief. This gave students a clear understanding of how to draft a structured and well-reasoned memorial.

Following the memorial presentation, Pratishtha and Muskan demonstrated courtroom proceedings, showcasing proper etiquette, oral arguments, and how to handle questions from the judges. They simulated the roles of petitioner and respondent, allowing students to observe how legal arguments are presented in a moot court competition.

This session provided valuable insights into both memorial drafting and courtroom advocacy, preparing the students for future participation in moot court competitions.

PICTURE STORY TELLING ACTIVITY- LED BY THE VICE PRESIDENT

The event concluded with a creative story writing and storytelling session led by Amit Mishra, which provided the students an opportunity to showcase their creativity and public speaking abilities in a relaxed and engaging manner.

In the closing remarks, Dr. Apoorva Roy emphasized the importance of the Picture Storytelling Activity during the Moot Court Society Induction Program. She highlighted that the activity helps develop critical skills such as creative thinking, clear communication, and effective storytelling—all essential for legal professionals. She encouraged students to participate in such exercises to enhance their advocacy skills and build confidence for future legal challenges.
