Introduction
Galgotias University, in collaboration with the Heartfulness Institute, celebrated the inauguration of the Bhartiya Gyan Parampara Kendra (Centre for Indian Knowledge Systems-CIKS) and the Heartfulness Lounge by Daaji (Shri Kamlesh D. Patel), Global Guide of Heartfulness. The event featured the unveiling of the CIKS plaque, a formal MoU signing between Heartfulness and Galgotias University, and the presentation of a Swami Vivekananda memento by Dr. Dhruv Galgotia, CEO, Galgotias University. More than 600 attendees across the campus participated in a 30-minute guided meditation session led by Daaji, fostering a powerful sense of presence and unity among students, faculty, and guests.
This transformative initiative reflects Galgotias University’s vision of integrating ancient Indian wisdom into modern education. The collaboration with Heartfulness aims to create spaces of conscious learning and self-discovery—bridging tradition and innovation, and nurturing holistic development within the academic environment.
Heartfulness Meditation Session with Daaji
A transformative session on Heartfulness Meditation was conducted by Daaji (Kamlesh D. Patel), the Global Guide of the Heartfulness Movement. The session delved deep into the convergence of ancient Indian wisdom and modern scientific insights, encouraging participants especially students to explore inner consciousness, understand the true purpose of life, and integrate spirituality into daily living.
Key Highlights of Daaji’s Discourse
- Reverence for Vedas and Upanishads
Daaji emphasized the importance of exploring the Vedas and Upanishads, our ancient scriptures, which serve as a reservoir of spiritual and philosophical wisdom. He encouraged students to reflect on foundational stories, such as that of the Kauravas from the Mahabharata, drawing lessons on ego, dharma, and inner conflicts.
- The Concept of the Temple Within
He posed introspective questions:
- "Is there any mention of temples in our scriptures?"
- "How often and when do they appear?"
Daaji revealed that the word “Hridayam” (Heart) is mentioned over 250 times in the scriptures, especially in Chapter 11 of the Bhagavad Gita. He highlighted Lord Krishna’s profound declaration:
“I dwell in every heart.”
This led to a deeper message: God resides within us, and the true direction of spiritual seeking is inward.
“Ask yourself—where are you searching for God? Look within,” Daaji encouraged.
- Sanskrit: A Language of Deep Meaning
He explained that every Sanskrit word is layered with meaning. For instance, the word “Iam” signifies a “dwelling place of divinity.” Words like Atman, Soul, and Ruh all point to the life force within, without which we cannot exist.
- Spirituality and Science: A Harmonious Integration
Daaji stressed that science and spirituality are not separate, but harmonious. He shared anecdotes like Albert Einstein’s meditative solitude—sitting for hours in a bathtub, smoking, locked away in thought—demonstrating how invention emerges from calmness and a relaxed state of mind.
He urged youth to reflect on profound questions:
- When did Sanyas come into being?
- What led to the downfall of Hindus?
- Why doesn’t the heart get convinced even after logical reasoning?
- What is the true purpose of life?
- Where is your mind and focus?
Daaji encouraged students to go deeper into the subconscious through cleaning techniques and meditation, linking this to Pranahuti, the transmission of yogic energy, which elevates consciousness and leads to Samadhi (spiritual absorption).
- Practical Insights from Daaji
Personal Journey and Challenges
Daaji shared his own story from 1976, when he was a third-year pharmacy student in Ahmedabad. Despite mockery from friends, he practiced meditation 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the evening. Over time, even his professors adopted the practice, inspired by his dedication.
He recommended students to read “Biology of Belief” by Dr. Bruce Lipton, to understand how beliefs and consciousness shape biology.
- 6. Addressing Student Questions Q&A
Q1: Struggles and Being Mocked for Meditating
One student expressed concerns about being mocked by friends. Daaji empathetically shared his personal struggles and advised:
“Be consistent. The world will laugh first but eventually follow. Don’t let the external noise shake your inner resolve.”
Q2: Balancing Chaos and Calm During Deadlines
Another student asked about mixing of chaos and calmness during academic stress. Daaji responded:
“Stress is natural and even necessary for growth. But Heartfulness meditation trains your mind to switch from chaos to calm.”
He gave the example of Indian women being sent to their maternal homes (maykaa) during pregnancy to ensure calmness—indicating that a peaceful environment promotes well-being and clarity.
- Meditation, Leadership and Noble Desires
Daaji emphasized that meditation enhances leadership by disciplining the mind.
“Through Yoga and Meditation, your activities become purposeful and fruitful,” he said.
He further added:
- “Passion leads to desire. Without passion, one cannot sustain effort.”
- “Noble and structured desires lead to sustained growth.”
He urged students to train the mind through daily meditation and to transform ordinary desires into noble aspirations, leading to personal and societal progress.
- Final Takeaways
- Spirituality is inward, not outward.
- Scientific breakthroughs often come from stillness and silence.
- Heartfulness Meditation fosters clarity, reduces stress, and builds leadership.
- Integrating ancient wisdom with modern science opens new paths for exploration.
- Self-inquiry, reflection, and daily meditative practice are tools for transformation.
