FDP on Translating Evidence-Based Innovative Yoga Practices into Healthcare Systems (To celebrate the International Day of Yoga under signature event Samyoga)

The Department of Biotechnology & Bioengineering, School of Biosciences & Technology, in collaboration with the School of Computer Science & Engineering and the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) at Galgotias University, successfully organized an orientation session on the Samsung ‘Solve for Tomorrow’ Innovation Challenge on June 6, 2025. The session was held from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM and witnessed active participation from a total of 324 students. The primary objective of the session was to empower young minds with essential 21st-century skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and creative ideation through the application of design thinking methodologies. The session was conducted by Ms. Vanita Vasudeva, Program Consultant at the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT), Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi.
Event Detailed Description
The Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “Translating Evidence-Based Innovative Yoga Practices into Healthcare Systems” commenced with a graceful inaugural ceremony on June 16, 2025, at 10:00 AM on the virtual platform.
The session opened with the auspicious Saraswati Vandana, invoking the blessings of the goddess of wisdom, followed by the presentation of a thematic video highlighting the essence of yoga, its ancient roots, and its emerging role in modern healthcare systems. This set a reflective and celebratory tone for the week-long program, organized to commemorate the International Day of Yoga.
The preamble address was delivered by Dr. Gaurav Kumar, Head of the Department of Biotechnology & Bioengineering, who warmly welcomed all dignitaries, resource persons, and participants. Dr. Kumar emphasized the objective of the FDP — to explore the intersection of ancient yogic wisdom and contemporary evidence-based healthcare — and highlighted the collaborative spirit among the various schools involved in organizing the event.
A series of addresses by esteemed dignitaries followed, each reinforcing the academic and therapeutic significance of yoga:
Prof. R. S. Sharma, Distinguished Professor, School of Biosciences & Technology, shared his insights on integrating yoga into the biosciences curriculum and underscored the importance of research-driven approaches in validating yoga’s health benefits.
Prof. SK Abdul Rahaman, Dean, School of Pharmacy, spoke about the evolving paradigm of health education, encouraging the fusion of yoga with pharmacological sciences to promote holistic treatment strategies.
Prof. Shagun Agarwal, Dean, School of Allied and Health Sciences, highlighted yoga’s application in physiotherapy and rehabilitation, underlining its growing relevance in allied healthcare disciplines.
Prof. Satyendra Gupta, Dean, School of Education, reflected on the pedagogical importance of incorporating yogic values into teacher training and student wellness programs for creating emotionally resilient learning environments.
Prof. Abhimanyu Kumar Jha, Dean, School of Biosciences & Technology, lauded the interdisciplinary nature of the program and encouraged faculties to undertake collaborative research in integrative health sciences.
The highlight of the session was the Presidential Address delivered by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) K. Mallikharjuna Babu. In his inspiring address, he emphasized Galgotias University’s commitment to promoting interdisciplinary education and research. He appreciated the initiative of blending traditional Indian knowledge systems like yoga with modern scientific inquiry. Prof. Babu urged academic institutions to take leadership roles in mainstreaming yoga within medical and technical education through research, innovation, and policy advocacy.
The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr. Sumedha Mukherjee, Event Coordinator, who expressed deep gratitude to all dignitaries, speakers, organizing team members, and participants for their support and presence. She acknowledged the contributions of all associated schools and coordinators for their seamless collaboration in bringing the FDP to fruition.
The inaugural session set the tone for a transformative academic journey ahead — blending heritage, health, and holistic education.
