He was among the 1% people who cleared CTETnd surprisingly he enjoyed giving CTET and appeared for 5 times in it, and cleared all the times.
Mr. Shiv Vats believes in the philosophy of Living Learning, where education goes beyond textbooks and connects deeply with real-life experiences. For him, learning should feel alive and relevant to the child’s world. His teaching approach is inspired by the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2005, which recognizes that teaching is a challenging and dynamic task that demands ongoing creativity, reflection, and dedication from educators. He sees teaching not just as a profession, but as a meaningful journey that shapes young minds through care, context, and continuous effort. He firmly advocates for the Mother Teacher System in early grades, as it helps build a sense of trust, emotional connection, and consistency between teacher and student. He also believes in enriching the classroom experience through collaborations with NGOs like Make a Difference and welcomes the involvement of guest teachers to bring diverse perspectives and learning opportunities for children.
He shared with us the teaching strategies that should be followed to truly engage students, he emphasizes the power of emotional connection and interactive learning. He encourages teachers to bond with their students by spending quality time together, something as simple as sharing lunch can make a big difference. His approach includes fun, hands-on activities like storytelling, role play, and treasure hunts, along with reward systems that keep students excited and involved. At the heart of it all is trust, he believes a teacher should be like a second parents, someone the child can rely on, learn from, and feel safe with.
Later on, he shared how he divides his days for working and planning for the classes, he approaches lesson planning as a thoughtful and creative process spread over three days—Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. He believes in blending subjects like EVS and Hindi into a single, cohesive lesson to make learning more meaningful and connected. By using real-life scenarios, such as a visit to a fish market, he turns even the most routine topics into engaging and relatable experiences for students, helping them see the practical side of what they learn in class. He generally focuses on 5 steps for planning a lesson which includes, step 1 to 3 for thoroughly reading and understanding the chapter or a lesson, step 4 is to focus on how to connect the chapter to their real- life experiences, and the final step 5 includes the preparation of Teaching Learning Materials that is to be used in the class.
Mr. Vats strongly believes that creativity and innovation have a vital place in government schools. He encourages students to express themselves through platforms like TEDx, giving them the confidence to share their thoughts and ideas. Instead of relying on rote memorization, he promotes hands-on, flexible learning that sparks curiosity and deeper understanding. His approach closely aligns with the goals of NEP 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework, both of which emphasize child-centred, experiential education that prepares students for real-life challenges.
