Career Guidance Session on Group Discussion and Interview Skills

On September 19, 2024, the School of Liberal Education in association with School of Life Long Learning successfully organized a Career Guidance Session focused on "Group Discussion & Interview Skills." This event was designed to equip students with the essential skills needed for the upcoming placement drive, which featured several high-profile companies eager to recruit graduates.
The session began with an inauguration by Prof. (Dr.) Anuradha Parasar, the Dean of the School of Liberal Education. In her welcome address, she emphasized the significance of this session in light of the esteemed companies that would be visiting the campus. Prof. Parasar highlighted that firms such as TCS BPS, True Blue India, Technook, Cred Wings Services Pvt Ltd, Deloitte, Jaro Education, and Infollion Research Services Ltd were scheduled to select BA and MA final-year students, offering lucrative packages ranging from 3.75 to 8 lac. This exciting prospect underscored the importance of preparing adequately for the placement drive.
Although the session primarily targeted graduating students, the School made a concerted effort to include first and second-year students as well, fostering an inclusive learning atmosphere. This initiative allowed younger students to gain valuable insights that would benefit them in the future.
The invited resource person for the day, Ms. Sushma Singh, conducted a detailed and engaging session that captivated the participants. Her extensive knowledge and experience in the field were evident as she delivered an insightful talk on various aspects of group discussions. She elaborated on the significance of body language and mannerisms, emphasizing how these factors can influence the outcome of discussions. Furthermore, she provided practical advice on professional dressing, guiding students on what to wear and how to present themselves with confidence.
In addition to group discussion skills, Ms. Singh led an in-depth segment on interview skills. She shared strategies for entering interviews with poise, discussing appropriate attire, and showcasing proper manners. Participants learned how to tackle difficult questions, with Ms. Singh offering practical tips that encouraged them to think critically and respond effectively. The interactive nature of the session allowed for role-play scenarios, giving students the opportunity to practice their skills in real-time while receiving constructive feedback.
The event concluded with a Q&A session, where Ms. Singh addressed the participants' queries with insightful responses. This engagement provided students with the chance to clarify their doubts and further solidified their understanding of the topics discussed.
