Career Guidance Session (Online)

School of Liberal Education, in association with the School of Life Long Learning, is organizing a Career Guidance Session on Resume Writing Skills & Professional Etiquettes on18 September 2024 at 3:00 PM. The Resource person for the session is Ms. Sushma Singh, an English Trainer. She began by emphasizing the importance of a well-structured resume. She explained that a resume serves as the first impression for potential employers, and therefore, it should be concise, relevant, and tailored to the specific job being applied for. Key elements of an effective resume include clear contact information, a professional summary, a detailed yet concise work experience section, and relevant skills. She advised participants to avoid unnecessary jargon and instead focus on achievements and quantifiable results. She further explained the importance of a resume as a self-promoting document that showcases education, skills, and work experience. It is a summary of professional achievements that tells the story of a career. She has 

also stressed the importance of the concept of ATS (Applicant Tracking System), which is software used by many companies to filter and rank resumes based on specific keywords and phrases. It uses relevant and specific keywords related to the job posting and avoids using images, graphics, or fancy fonts.

The session was highly interactive, with a questions-answer round provided. Overall, the participants left with a stronger understanding of how to present themselves professionally, both through their resumes and in workplace interactions.
