Art of Living Faculty Development Program

The Faculty Development Program (FDP) conducted from July 9 to July 12, 2024, was an enriching experience for all participants, fostering both personal and professional growth. Organized by the prestigious Art of Living, the program was led by Dr. Sadhna Jaiswal, President and Senior Faculty of Art of Living, along with Akhilesh Parmanu,(Senior Faculty) at Art of Living. The event focused on integrating Yogic exercises, Pranayama, Sudarshan Kriya, and other wellness practices into the daily lives of faculty members.
Objectives
The primary objectives of the FDP were:
- To promote holistic well-being among faculty members.
- To provide tools and techniques for stress management and emotional regulation.
- To enhance overall productivity and creativity through ancient Indian wellness practices.
Program Details
Day 1: Introduction and Orientation The program commenced with an orientation session where Dr. Sadhna Jaiswal introduced the philosophy of Art of Living and its relevance in contemporary times. The session focused on the importance of mental and physical well-being in academic settings.
Yogic Exercises Participants were introduced to a series of Yogic exercises designed to improve flexibility, strength, and balance. These exercises included:
- Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation): A series of 12 powerful yoga postures that provide a good cardiovascular workout.
- Asanas: Various poses such as Trikonasana (Triangle Pose), Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose), and Shavasana (Corpse Pose) were practiced to promote physical health and relaxation.
Day 2: Pranayama Techniques The second day was dedicated to Pranayama, the art of controlling the breath. Mr. Akhilesh Parmanu, led this session, highlighting the significance of Pranayama in reducing stress and increasing mental clarity. Techniques covered included:
- Anulom Vilom (Alternate Nostril Breathing): Helps in balancing the two hemispheres of the brain.
- Kapalbhati (Skull Shining Breath): Energizes the mind and improves respiratory efficiency.
- Bhramari (Bee Breath): Promotes calmness and reduces anxiety.
Day 3: Sudarshan Kriya The highlight of the FDP was the session on Sudarshan Kriya, a powerful rhythmic breathing technique that harmonizes the body, mind, and spirit. Dr. Sadhna Jaiswal explained the science behind Sudarshan Kriya and its benefits, which include:
- Improved emotional stability.
- Enhanced concentration and focus.
- Detoxification of the body and mind.
Day 4: Integration and Reflection The final day was dedicated to integrating the learned practices into daily routines. Participants engaged in group discussions and shared their experiences. The faculty members reflected on how these techniques could be incorporated into their professional lives to foster a more productive and harmonious work environment.
