The APBM 2024 International Conference on Applied Psychology and Business Management began with a packed agenda focused on fostering collaboration in the fields of psychology, business, and education. Hosted by Galgotias University, India, the event gathered international academics and professionals, reinforcing the global nature of the discussions on interdisciplinary challenges, solutions, and innovations.
Day 1: October 10, 2024
The conference began with registration, followed by an official opening speech by Prof. Dr. Anuradha Parasar, the Dean of the School of Liberal Education at Galgotias University. She welcomed the attendees and set the tone for the two-day event, emphasizing the importance of applied psychology and business management in today’s interconnected world.
Next, Prof. Dr. Iryna Sekret, Chair of the IATELS Committee and representing STARTINFORUM in Turkey, extended greetings and highlighted the achievements of IATELS (International Association for Technology, Education, and Language Studies) over the past year. This was followed by an inaugural address from Adv. Aradhana Galgotias, the Director of Operations at Galgotias University. She expressed gratitude for the university’s growing international partnerships, emphasizing the role of collaboration in advancing education and research.
Continuing the theme of international collaboration, Dr. Tomayess Issa from Curtin University, Australia, presented greetings from Curtin University. She focused on the university’s efforts in global research and collaboration, particularly in fields that intersect psychology, education, and business. This was followed by Dr. Mallikharjuna K Babu, Vice-Chancellor of Galgotias University, who discussed how the institution has contributed to the development of international education and research partnerships, solidifying Galgotias University’s role in the global academic landscape.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nadia Anwar from the University of Management and Technology (UMT), Lahore, Pakistan, provided insights into UMT’s contribution to the academic world and its growing relationship with Galgotias University. This segment of the conference highlighted the deep ties between these institutions, fostering a global exchange of ideas and research. To close this introductory session, the Students Committee from Galgotias University offered their greetings, showcasing the youthful and energetic academic culture of the university, followed by a cultural performance that added a vibrant local flavor to the conference.
The academic sessions began after a coffee break, with Prof. Dr. Iryna Sekret delivering a keynote presentation on the global economy’s current challenges and transformations, a topic of prime interest given today’s dynamic global market. She provided an analytical view of the forces reshaping business and the economy, especially in a post-pandemic world.
In the next presentation, Prof. Dr. Anuradha Parasar and her colleagues from Galgotias University, along with Prof. Dr. Shadab A Ansari, explored peace education and the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in building a sustainable business society. This timely presentation highlighted how AI can be leveraged to create equitable and resilient business environments that promote societal peace and collaboration.
Further advancing the theme of gender equity, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nadia Anwar from UMT, Pakistan, delivered a thought-provoking presentation on surrogate patriarchs and their threat to gender equity in higher education. She raised important issues about how invisible power dynamics still hinder gender equality in academic institutions globally.
One of the standout sessions was delivered by Dr. Joseph Anthony Narciso Z. Tiangco from Shu-Te University, Taiwan. He discussed business leadership in non-profit organizations, focusing on the lessons and insights that can inspire the next generation of changemakers. This session underscored the unique challenges non-profit leaders face and the innovative solutions required to drive impactful change.
Following this, Dr. Shabama Azami from Galgotias University delved into continuous intrapreneurial enlargement—an in-depth analysis of the evolving role of entrepreneurship within organizations. This session looked at how intrapreneurship can drive sustained organizational growth, especially in a constantly changing business environment.
The morning sessions concluded with a compelling case study presented by Fiona Girkin and Dr. Sharyn Curran from Curtin University, Australia. They explored the hidden costs of female primary psychopaths in welfare organizations, providing a controversial but eye-opening analysis of leadership in the community sector in Tasmania.
The afternoon session introduced various governance and business challenges across the globe, including Narwah Alomair from Curtin University, who presented insights from a Saudi Arabian perspective on how organizations can bolster their resilience against social engineering attacks.
The day closed with a session by Sumaiya Pervaiz from Curtin University, Australia, addressing key governance factors in Pakistan for promoting sustainable living. This final discussion of the day was relevant to current global concerns about sustainability and responsible governance.
Day 2: October 11, 2024
Day two started with an engaging session by Dr. Tomayess Issa on sustainability awareness, focusing on how universities can integrate sustainability into both curricula and operational strategies. Her session was followed by Prof. Dr. Iryna Sekret, who compared business psychology and organizational psychology, highlighting new trends in both theories and practices. This presentation emphasized how psychological principles could be applied to improve business outcomes, enhancing both organizational productivity and employee well-being.
A critical presentation from Prof. Dr. Phalgu Niranjana and colleagues from ASBM University in India examined organizational citizenship behavior and how organizational ethos plays a role in shaping employees' behaviors, productivity, and loyalty.
The closing discussions on the second day tackled pressing topics such as the impact of AI on layoffs and the implementation of a four-day work week. This comparative analysis, presented by Maria Arshad, examined how inflation and corporate profitability differ between developed and underdeveloped countries in light of technological advancements.
The conference concluded with final remarks by Prof. Dr. Iryna Sekret, where she summarized the diverse presentations and discussions. The APBM 2024 International Conference successfully demonstrated the intersection of applied psychology and business management, creating an intellectual environment that promoted dialogue, collaboration, and innovation across disciplines and national borders.
