Indian Army, Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) has organized an Ultra Marathon Run under the Patronship of DGEME and Sr Col Commandant Lt Gen KK Aggarwal, SM, VSM. The run was flagged off on 01 Feb 2018 from India Gate. This run is being organized to celebrate Platinum Jubilee of the Corps of EME. EME Ultra Run comprises of running half marathon everyday for 50 days. Aim of the run is to spread the message of Healthy, Clean, Green and Pollution Free Happy India amongst the masses through conduct of yoga session after termination of each half marathon at various schools/colleges/institutions of NCR.
The corps of EME has always been in the forefront of sports and adventure and has produced outstanding sportspersons like the "Flying Sikh Milkha Singh", Brig. RK Manchanda - seven time national Squash Champions, Maj. HPS Ahluwalia - the first defence person to scale Mount Everest, Col. JK Bajaj - the first Indian to reach south pole, and many others who continue to bring laurels to the country.
Keeping up the same traditions, a strong and optimistic team of unique achievers of Corps of EME (who has to their credit successful climb of Mount Everest, International White Water Rafting and Kayaking competitions, hot Air Ballooning, Iron Man and various other achievements), under the leadership of Lt. Colonel Vishal Ahlawat, is running an Ultra Marathon for 50 days covering 21 KMs everyday in NCR with an aim of "Healthy, clean, green, pollution free and happy India"
On 8th March this ultra marathon run was organized at Greater Noida and it culminated at 8.00 a.m. at Galgotias University. A team of 10 runners comprised of Lt. Col Vishal Ahlawat who has scaled Mount Everest in 2016, created a national record for cycling from Leh to Kanyakumari in 18 days, he is also a participated in international and national level events of Hot Air Ballooning, White Water Kayaking & Rafting, Sailing, Major Sandeep Kumar who is Iron Man Triathlon finisher, para motor pilot and a para jumper, and 8 more participants.
The team was received by a group of students and faculty members at 8.00 a.m. At 8.15 a.m. a yoga session for students and faculty members was conducted by a Yoga Instructor from Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, Ministry of Ayush, Govt of India.
Thereafter, the team interacted with a group of students where Lt. Col. Vishal delivered a motivational talk. At 10.15 a.m., a plantation drive was conducted by the visiting team, students and faculty members at the University Campus.
The team then met Honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Renu Luthra to share their motto, vision and mission.
At the end, the team would be given a sendoff by the faculty members and students.
