Topic - Spatial Technologies in Finance
Speaker: Dr. Yogita Shukla (Executive Director Survey and Mapping Association (SAMA), Founder and Principal Scientist- Re- Invigorating Science for Himalayas (RISHI))
The spatial sciences relate to where things are. They are about measuring and representing the world around us. Spatial technologies encompass remote sensing technology that collects data from satellites, aircraft, UAV/drones and scanners. Global Navigational Satellite Systems, like GPS, that tell us where we are. This webinar was conducted to better inform on how these spatial technologies can be used in the field of finance.
It was with regards to further inform on this varied and complex topic that the School of Finance and Commerce invited Dr. Yogita Shukla to enlighten the students and faculty on this fascinating topic.
Dr. Yogita Shukla, is currently serving as the Executive Director of the Survey and Mapping Association (SAMA), she is also the Founder and Principal Scientist at RISHI (Re-Invigorating Science for Himalayas). Dr. Shukla is an active technology evangelist for geospatial information technologies and working closely with government entities for the implementation of these technologies in various national development programs.
Furthermore, Dr. Shukla is also an educator who is responsible for transferring her knowledge and expertise to the next generation while also being a full-time mother.
The webinar commenced with the welcoming of guests and dignitaries, and presenting the profile of the speaker to the audience. Dr. Shukla began by introducing the topic in hand, talking over the basics of spatial technologies before delving into its implications in the financial industry.
Moreover. Dr. Shukla spoke at lengths about the need, applications and impact of spatial technologies in the finance. She further discussed it&rsquos importance in the banking and insurance industry and also how it these technologies can be used to further optimize the financial services sector.
The Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dean SFC, Advisor to SFC, Deans of other schools, large number of faculty members of SFC and various other schools, students from all 5 programs of the school, and many external faculty members participated in the webinar. The session was throughout interactive and many questions were put by students as well as faculty members.
At the end a vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Arvind Sinha on behalf of SFC to the speaker, dignitaries, students and faculty members for cooperation extended in making it a successful event. The event would not have been successful without the sincere effort put in by the Co-curricular team volunteers in organizing the event.
