During this pandemic situation of the Novel Covid-19 virus, where cases of Corona are increasing day by day an urgent need of awareness regarding community work among individual to cope with this situation has also aroused. In this regard School of Education, Galgotias University conducted the online lecture on &ldquoNGOs: Opportunities and Challenges during Covid-19&rdquo on 29th July, 2020 from 2:30 &ndash 4:30 pm. The objective of this event was to engage learners and serve our community and to develop the budding teachers understanding in the community-based works and their sensitization about community based works and encourage them to take participation in various community-based works to enhance their capacities and built up the confidence. Through this lecture tried to motivate our budding teachers to play a role of social worker in their neighbourhood.
The guest speaker for this lecture was Mrs. Ambadipudi Venkata Lakshmi Suryakala from Sai Akshardham Educational Charitable Trust, Greater Noida. Event was started on ZOOM platform from 2:30 pm with the welcome note given by Dr. Satyendra Gupta, Professor and Dean, School of Education, Galgotias University. The event was coordinated by Dr. Shri Kant Dwivedi, Associate Professor, School of Education, Galgotias University. In her lecture, Mrs. Ambadipudi very well emphasized on her knowledge and experience about NGOs. She listed three different types of NGOs based upon three criteria: orientation, cooperation and activities.
She discussed various opportunities and related challenges of NGOs during this pandemic period. According to her, following are the major challenges being faced by the NGOs during COVID-19:
- The major problem was funding.
- The Global Economy as at a standstill.
- People were afraid after witnessing such a widespread pandemic.
- Many had lost their livelihoods.
- Begore the advent of Covid, most of the funding was raised through CSR, government bodies and others.
- At the same time, it created a pressure on all the NGOs as their activities could not be halted.
- Also, there was an air of uncertainty.
- Now the job was shifted to look after the children&rsquos families as well.
Mrs. Ambadipudi also stated the list of opportunities and their benefits during the period of Covid-19. They are as follows:
- Societal contribution
- Professional development
- Academic amelioration
- Skill development
- Cultural understanding
- Bigger strategy
- Better networking
- Broader horizon
- A sense of fulfilment, accomplishment and gratification.
The entire session was very informative and proved to be an eye-opener. The vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Shri Kant Dwivedi. All participants including the students of School of Education and faculty members felt inspired and motivated towards community work. Lecture was successfully ended with satisfactorily answering to the queries of the participants. Faculty and students of B.Ed., M.Ed. and Ph.D. scholars had taken part in this lecture. This lecture was live streamed on YouTube and Galgotias University official Facebook Page. Take away of this lecture were the key steps and understanding that we had to come up with a way to look after the needy people around us. On the basis of the feedback filled by the participant&rsquos auto generated e-certificates issued to them.
