School of Finance & Commerec organized its 3rd Speaker Session on the topic of Personal Taxation

Guest Speaker: Ms. Shashi Sawhney, Chartered Accountant (Former employee-PwC, E&Y)
Personal taxation is paramount to any healthy economy. It is a medium of steady revenue to the Government. For public it is their contribution towards nation building. It also provides data to the Government to formulate its policies. It also serves as tool to the Government to monitor the transactions entered in by individuals. Considering the importance and relevance of the topic School of Finance and Commerce is organized 3rd Guest speaker session on the topic &ldquoPersonal taxation&rdquo on 17th January, 2020 in C &ndash Block Auditorium, GU campus under the guidance of Dr Salim Shamsher, Dean School of Finance and Commerce.
The School invited Ms. Shashi Sawhney, a renowned practicing Chartered Accountant. She started her career with PWC and later switched to EY. She has extensive experience in documentation for compliance required by Transfer Pricing regulations of India and globally & filing Accountant&rsquos reports, drafting replies / submissions to notices issued in course of assessment and representing before the tax authorities. She has also taught subjects in taxation and accounting area at Amity University and Galgotias University. She has been an active speaker on key tax and related issues at various universities and other forums. She has also published papers in various professional and academic journals. 
Participants of this session were BBA (FIA) II and IV semester, B.Com.-International Accounting and Finance II and IV semester, B.Com. II, IV sand VI semester and M.Com. 4th semester.
The session began with the welcoming the guest with a memento by Dr Salim Shamsher, Dean School of Finance and Commerce. During her session she discussed about the basic of taxation like meaning of assesse, assessment year, previous year taxation and types of residential status. She also discussed about different type of income chargeable under tax, various deductions available under different sections and also explained how to file income tax return. Her session was throughout interactive and many questions were put in by the students. She appreciated School of Finance and Commerce for holding such speaker sessions and told students to take advantage of it.
At the end Dr. Arvind Sinha, Associate Professor, SFC proposed vote of thanks on behalf SFC to the speaker, dignitaries, students and faculty members for cooperation extended in making it a successful event. The event would not have been successful without the sincere effort put in by the Co-curricular team volunteers in organizing the event.
