The girls have not vanished overnight in India. Decades of sex determination tests and female foeticide that has acquired genocide proportions are finally catching up with states in India. With the census figures in 1991, there is decline in child sex ratio very evidently by comparing, the figure was 947 girls to 1000 boys but ten years later it had fallen to 927 girls for 1000 boys. Despite these horrific numbers, foetal sex determination and sex ive abortion by unethical medical professionals are being followed. There practices are happening because India has a long history of strong patriarchal influence in all spheres of life.
So there is a need to change the negative attitude of family and community through public awareness.
