An academic visit to Kisan Mela (Farmers Fair) at IARI Pusa Campus, New Delhi was organized for B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture students on 7th March, 2019. The students were accompanied by Dr. Mahesh Singh, Assistant Professor, Dr. Ganesh D. Bhatt, Prof. & Dean, and two academic staff.
The Kisan Mela was organized with a definite theme on priority area of agricultural research and technology transfer. B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture students got quality knowledge about the exhibition presented by different Government and Non-Government organizations throughout the country.
B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture students saw different types of agricultural implements - modern spray pump, irrigation system, pusa decomposer, climate change research facilities, pusa aqua fertilizer seed drill, okra planter etc.
Special seed trade counters to enable procurement of quality seeds by farmers, live demo on micro irrigation, waste water utilization, conventional and modern rain fed farming technologies, vertical farming, seedling of fruit trees, animal husbandry etc., were displayed at various stalls and students acquired knowledge about their function and specifications in agriculture sector.
B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture students grasped an opportunity to see various plant breeding techniques, different types of herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, fertilizers and learn to use them for refining crop productivity. The students were also saw different types of disease infected specimens, models, improved varieties of fruits, vegetable crops and useful insects for crop plants. In the exhibition, students also learned about bee hives, honey bee extraction and the bi-products of honey bees and their uses.
This academic visit shaped enthusiasm in every student, as they had an enhancement of face to face interaction with entrepreneurs of different areas of agriculture. A few photographs are attached to this whatsapp group for your kind information only.
