Constructivism is a psychological theory of knowledge that argues that human beings construct knowledge and meaning from their learning experiences. Chief proponent of constructivism, Jean Piaget, asserted that knowledge is internalized by learner. Through process of accommodation and assimilation, individuals construct new knowledge from their experience.
Galgotias University focuses on delivering holistic education covering all aspects of an individual's personality across various spheres. On this line School of Education (SOE), Galgotias university organized a national workshop on the topic "Constructivist Pedagogy: Challenges and Prospects" on 27thFebruary, 2019. The workshop was conducted by, as resource person, the eminent educationist Dr. Niradhar Dey, Assistant professor, School of Education, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi.
The main objective of the workshop was to provide thorough knowledge of the construction of a lesson plan base on constructivist pedagogy and understanding of the challenges in following this pedagogy. The workshop was designed in training-cum-practical type, involving lecture-cum-demonstrations, interactive sessions and hands-on practice.
The workshop started with inaugural session. This session graced by the H&rsquoble Vice Chancellor of the Galgotias University Prof. Renu Luthara. She welcomed the resource person on behalf of the University. In her speech she encouraged all the participants of the workshop and also presented future plan of the University.
The workshop was divided in two sessions, first session started with the understanding of the inter discipline, multi-discipline, trans-discipline and laid stress on constructivism concept and components. The resource person gave detailed explanation on instructional tools and activities that are encouraged in constructive classroom. He gave a comparison between traditional learning approach and constructivist learning approach and emphasized on the importance of constructivist approach in present day teaching-learning process.
In the second session Dr. Dey focused on constructivist lesson planning based upon Roger Bybee&rsquos Five Es Model lesson plan. In this session he explained and discussed the whole concept of 5 Es with a model lesson plan with the participants. In last participants were told to prepare a lesson plan based upon learned model and present in the workshop. He gave so many suggestions to the participants and satisfied their queries for effective use of this 5 Es based lesson plan in their class rooms.
The workshop involved the vast information and knowledge of construction of lesson plan. It became a great and inspiring learning experience for all the participants. The workshop was attended by more than 70 participants from various teacher education institutions across Delhi-NCR including students, faculty members and research scholars.
