School of Nursing organised an educational visit for Students of B.Sc Nursing 3rd year to National eye bank, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, AIIMS, New Delhi as a part of their curriculum .Two faculty members accompanied 40 students. Mrs Kamlesh Saini, Transplant co-ordinator and Mrs Suman Kashyap DNS started the session with an orientation about National eye bank. Mrs Kamlesh explained about the complete process of retrieval of the cornea and its storage in the eye bank .She updated the students with the current waiting list of the patient of INDIA for corneal transplantation. Students were also shown how the cornea is preserved in the lab. The Visit ended with a session by Dr Dheeraj Mohania, Scientist RP Centre educated the students about the current functioning of eye bank and the scientific lookout on it.Eye donation form 7 was distributed among students and they were also encouraged to donate their cornea to make someone see the world through their eyes.
It was a great learning experience for my students.
