Ms. Sakshi Chauhan
Sakshi Chauhan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English (School of Humanities and Social Sciences) at Galgotias University where she has been a faculty member from past one year. Sakshi submitted her PhD in English (Linguistics and Phonetics) at The English and Foreign Languages University, Lucknow Campus. Her specialisation is in discourse analysis and her current interests are ‘discourse studies’, ‘critical language awareness’ and critical analysis of gendered and media discourses with a special focus on unsymmetrical power relations and networks of ideologies. She has presented and published papers in related areas in international conferences and journals and has also been awarded with National Eligibility Test (for the eligibility for Assistant Professor) and granted Junior Research Fellowship.
While engaging with the students, her interest is not only to impart subject-specific knowledge (grammaticality of language) but also to majorly focus on the significance of language tools used in a pragmatic context, thus making students realize the potential of language use. Her teaching methodology is based on the idea of enhancing students’ awareness of language as well as their critical consciousness about real world by integrating their present language competence and socio-psychological experiences. This makes the classroom more engaging, since the students bring in their own lived experiences and discuss how language affects their social action and how they unconsciously imbibe meanings embedded in everyday language.
