Introduction

Legal aid clinic and mediation center, Galgotias University

Hon'ble Mr. Justice Dipak Misra inaugurated the Legal Aid Clinic at School of Law Galgotias University on April 26, 2014. The Legal Aid Clinic has been set up in collaboration with the UP State Legal Service Authority in order to give effect to the policy and directions of the National Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 and the National Legal Services Authority (Legal Aid Clinics) Scheme, 2010. The School of Law, Galgotias University established the Students Legal Aid Clinic to provide free legal aid to the poor, needy persons and the members of the weaker sections of the society. The Clinic has conducted legal awareness programs among people particularly illiterates and economically weaker section of the community, living in remote backward areas near the Law School and has created awareness about their legal rights and duties and to make them aware of the availability of various social welfare activities sponsored by the State and Central Government. Legal Aid Clinic of Galgotias University has been awarded with top ten best legal aid clinics title of India by Knowledge Steez Edu Hub in year 2018 and year 2019. The clinic is also awarded with title of Legal Aid Emerging 2020-21 by Allahabad University and Droit Penale Group at 4th National Symposium & Awards on 9th and 10th January, 2021.

Mediation Cell

Legal Aid Clinic and Mediation Center was established with the vision of developing and training students in alternative methods of dispute resolution and reducing the burden of courts in India. This mediation cell will facilitate dispute resolution in a timely manner with no cost . Students will also learn the alternative ways of access to the justice system and enhance their practical skills of mediation.

Right to Information Cell

Corruption has been increasing in our country rapidly. People are not aware of the ways in which the public funds were being utilized. Thus, it is necessary to educate people about their right to information which helps them to gain information from the central or state government.

Legal Awareness Cell

People are still not aware of their basic rights due to which the legal aid movement has not achieved its goal yet. It is the absence of legal awareness which leads to exploitation and deprivation of rights and benefits of the poor.

Women Empowerment Cell

There are many challenges that are currently plaguing the issues of women's rights in India. A lot of issues are prolonged and quite basic which has been faced across the country; they are contributory causes to the overarching status of women in India.

Prison Reform Cell

It is very important to know and spread awareness that prisoners also have certain rights like speedy trial, meeting their lawyers, etc.

Membership

The committee is constituted afresh every year with new members, senior members and 1st year members. Members and seniors can apply to this Committee by mentioning their relevant work inside and outside School of Law, Galgotias University, during the previous academic year. In contrast, first year members are chosen based on an application and an interview.

The following are thee activities undertaken by the society in the academic year 2021 and 2022.

1. 09-01-21 Workshop and Award Ceremony Online Droit Penale Group organized two-day National Symposium & Awards on “Law, Society and Changing Norms.” Many eminent personalities from various spheres attended the symposium to share their perspective and expertise on the issue. Amongst the illuminant personalities like Hon'ble Justice Suneet Kumar, High Court of Judicature, Prayagraj and Prof Sangita Srivastava, Vice-Chancellor, University of Allahabad and Prof. Kumar Akshand Pandey, of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University shared their perspective on the topic.
2. 13-01-21 Road safety drive campaign Moradabad The agenda for the camp was to aware people about Traffic Rules and the laws related to it and tell them to follow the rules.
3. 15-01-21 Workshop Village, Greater Noida This was a group project in which students got a chance to teach some basic human rights to those who doesn’t even know what right is.

This project was an opportunity to teach children about their Human Rights and what role it plays.

5. 31-01-21 Interactive Session Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi The National Commission for Women, being established on 31st January, 1992, as a statutory body under National Commission for Women Act, 1990, marked its 29th Foundation Day on 31st January, 2021. To commemorate the auspicious day, the Commission organized an even to felicitate WOMEN COVID WARRIORS for their exceptional and commendable work during the pandemic.
6. 8-03-21 Awareness Program Galgotias University, Greater Noida The event was conducted on the occasion of Women’s Day and focused mainly on rights of women, how they have been violated and how women have been subjected to cruelty, limitations, etc. and also the various stereotypical thinking associated with the community.
7. 10-03-21 Nukkad Natak Galgotias University, Greater Noida The aim of the play was to spread awareness about ragging and how it affects young students. Through the play, it was urged or requested from the crowd of almost 50 to 75 students who witnessed the play, to not to indulge in such practices and oppose or talk to concerned authorities if subjected to ragging.
8. 18-03-21 Workshop Vikas Vishranti NGO, Greater Noida The main purpose of this workshop conducted in the NGO for the students to make them aware about their human rights and to make them aware of the good and bad activities which were happening around them as it is the right time to tell all these things to those students, so that they all get knowledge about what is wrong and what is right.
9. 19-03-21 Workshop Royal Paradise Hostel, Greater Noida The workshop had presented the various human rights by the help of PowerPoint Presentation and videos followed with the booklets provided by Human Rights Commission which helped me a lot in conveying the things to them and was very fruitful for them too.
10. 20-03-21 Workshop Prathamik Vidyalaya, Sakipur This workshop was to spread to spread rule of law and legal awareness in lower section of society. They taught them the importance knowledge of rights and duties. They elaborated them that why they should know their rights.
11. 20-03-21 Workshop AL-NAJAH-Institute-School of Excellence, Jamia Nagar, New Delhi This workshop was to make the students and faculties aware of the Human Rights, The Right to Life and legal framework so that they do not become a victim of Human Rights violation. They interacted with the students and provided them with the necessary information regarding Human Rights. The workshop was crucial as Human Rights touches almost all aspects of rights that they have by the virtue of being a Human.
12. 22-03-21 Awareness Program Chandra Kanta Public Jr. High School, Greater Noida The main purpose of the workshop conducted in school for the students to make them aware. University education is more beneficial that technical training because at the university the students have the opportunity to learn technical and career related skills as well as to acquire prospective on life.
13. 24-03-21 Workshop Saraswati educational Society, New Delhi The Workshop was conducted for the Children of Disadvantageous group of Society on the theme "Good Touch and Bad Touch". It is for the Students of Age group 7 to 12 years who need to be aware of the safety measures and can protect themselves from harassment and child abuse.
14. 05-04-21 Workshop Slum of Gautam Budh Nagar, Greater Noida This systematic awareness Program helped us to understand and identified Children Suffering Child abuse. Neglect is the persistent failure to meet a child’s basic physical and/or psychological needs, likely to result in the serious impairment of his or her health or development. Neglect may occur during pregnancy as a result of maternal substance abuse.
15. 18-06-21 Interactive session Online An interactive session was organized by Legal Aid Clinic Galgotias University to inculcate the students/attendees regarding the recent landmark cases. The Cases discussed were -

  • Central Public Officer, SC V. Subhash Chandra Agarwal.
  • S. Kaasi V. State through inspector of police.
  • Vinnetha Sharma V. Rakesh Sharma and others
The speakers were successful in making the attendees understood the recent development in laws.
16. 21-06-21 Workshop Online Medicine, Law and Society, College of Maribor, Slovenia effectively coordinated its 30th Celebration gathering Medication, Law and Society: At a defining moment. This was its third B.section: Understudy studio in English. Mr Marius Mensah began with a welcome note and the concise presentation about the occasion and welcomed Ms. PapuAlieva, an understudy from MSU Lomonosov Graduate school, to push ahead with her show 'Willful extermination or do we reserve an option to be permitted to bite the dust?' Her show incorporates meanings of Killing, its sorts, particular terms, Russian and Switzerland guideline and examination of guidelines in various nations. Next in the line was the show given by Dr. MatjažZwitter, Workforce of Medication, College of Maribor, on 'Reflection on Willful extermination'. Speeding up the occasion, Mr Marius Mensah welcomed Dr. Niteesh Kumar Upadhyay, collaborator educator of Law, Galgotias College, India, additionally the Exploration counsel of South Ural College, Chelyabinsk, Russia, to introduce his work on 'Investigation of Willful extermination in India.
17. 26-09-21 Awareness Camp Connaught Place, New Delhi The aim of the camp was to spread awareness about the legal language and make the people a bit comfortable with legal terminologies.
18. 05-10-21 Guest Lecture Galgotias University, Greater Noida Guest of Honor for the event was DLSA Secretary, Jai Hind Kumar Singh. Sir interacted with the students and faculties and talked about working of DLSA (District Legal Services Authority) and also stated various social issues like problems in marriage and language barrier.
19. 13-11-21 School Workshop Biharilal Inter College, Greater Noida Performed nukkad natak on the topic of dowry and domestic violence and gave information about the provisions of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) like arrest, warrant, guidelines of arrest and case of DK Basu vs State of West Bengal.
20. 09-11-21 Interactive session Sharda University, Greater Noida On the occasion of Legal Services Day, Sharda University organized an interactive session with Chief Guest Hon’ble Shri Justice N.V. Ramana (Chief Justice of India % Patron-in-chief, NALSA), Guest of Honor Hon’ble Shri Kiren Rijiju (Union Minister for Law and Justice, Government of India) and Hon’ble Shri Justice Uday Umesh Lalit (Judge Supreme Court of India & Executive Chairman, NALSA).
21. 14-11-21 Interactive Session Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi National Legal Services Authority organized the Valedictory Ceremony of Pan India Legal Awareness & Outreach Campaign which was started on 2nd October, 2021 and ended on 14th November, 2021 with Chief Guest Hon’ble Shri Justice N.V. Ramana (Chief Justice of India % Patron-in-chief, NALSA) and Guest of Honor Hon’ble Smt. Smriti Zubin Irnai (Union Minister for Women and Chile Development) and Hon’ble Shri Justice Uday Umesh Lalit (Judge Supreme Court of India & Executive Chairman, NALSA) .
22. 05-03-22 National Seminar on Importance of Legal Aid under Constitutional Scheme and Role of Legal Aid Clinics in Promoting Law and Justice and Launching of Pilot Project.

Galgotias University, Greater Noida Uttar Pradesh State Legal Service Authority in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority & consortium of Law Colleges & Universities in Gautam Buddha Nagar with Galgotias University as the lead University organised NATIONAL SEMINAR ON “IMPORTANCE OF LEGAL AID UNDER CONSTITUTIONAL SCHEME AND ROLE OF LEGAL AID CLINICS IN PROMOTING LAW AND JUSTICE” & THE LAUNCHING OF PILOT PROJECT FOR EXPEDITIOUS DISPOSAL OF MOTOR ACCIDENT CLAIM CASES AT GAUTAMBUDDHA NAGAR BY HON’BLE CHIEF JUSTICE OF HIGH COURT OF JUDICATURE AT ALLAHABAD. The event was graced by Chief Guest-Hon'ble Mr. Justice Rajesh Bindal, Chief Justice, High Court of Judicature at Allahabad, Patron-in-Chief UPSLSA — Guest of Honour- Hon'ble Mr. Justice Pritinker Diwaker, Judge, High Court of Judicature at Allahabad, Hon'ble Executive Chairman, UPSLSA — Special Guest- Hon'ble Mr. Justice Umesh Kumar, High Court of Judicature at Allahabad, Administrative Judge, Gautam Buddha Nagar. — Sh. Ashok Kumar Jain, Member Secretary, National Legal Services Authority. — Sh. Sanjay Singh, Member-Secretary, U.P. State Legal Services Authority, Lucknow. The event was attended by many universities of Gautam Buddha Nagar.
23 08-03-2022 Nukkad Natak on the occasion of Women’s Day, 2022. Galgotias University The event or the play was organized by the Nukkad Natak team of the Legal Aid Society, School of Law, Galgotias University.

The play was on dowry and its effects. Dowry has resulted in an increase in harassment and murder cases. It places an economic burden on the bride's family. The aim of the play was to spread awareness about the practice of dowry and how it affects a girl and her family. Through the play, it was urged or requested from the crowd of almost 50 to 75 students who witnessed the play, to not to indulge in such practices and oppose if they witness the same.
24. 07-04-22 to 13-04-22 Para Legal Volunteer Training Different Universities of Greater Noida District legal services Authority, Gautam Budh Nagar organized five days of Para Legal Volunteer Training at different universities of Greater Noida.
25. 13-04-2022 Workshop on Child Rights Amar Public School, Sector 37 Noida Students of Galgotias University conducted a workshop of child rights.
26. 11-04-22 to 13-04-22 Para Legal Volunteer Training Ideal Institute of Management and Technology, New Delhi Delhi District Legal Services Authority organized three days of Para Legal Volunteer Training.
