PHARMACY DEPARTMENTS
The Programme comprises of the following four Departments
1. PHARMACEUTICS DEPARTMENT
In this department the students get knowledge in developing, manufacturing and evaluating products such as tablets, capsules, ointments and liquids for medicinal, nutritional and cosmetic use. Also a student is trained in Product Development/Formulation, Manufacturing, Drug delivery and Drug stability testing. The lab is well equipped with new as well as conventional equipments like ovens, shakers, stirrers, homogenizers, viscometer, centrifuge etc. The working benches have adequate water, gas and electricity supply.
2. PHARMACOLOGY DEPARTMENT
Pharmacology is the study of drug action. More specifically it is the study of the interactions that occur between a living organism and exogenous chemicals that alter normal biochemical function. The Department focuses on drug composition and properties, interactions, toxicology studies and medical applications. Pharmacology deals with how drugs interact within biological systems to affect function. It is the study of drugs, of the body's reaction to drugs, the sources of drugs, their nature, and their properties. Pharmacology lab is equipped with all the required instruments and animals to carry out the research activities by the graduates. In the Department of Pharmacology, we learn about the action of various on the living tissues and then this knowledge is extended to the treatment of various diseases and disorders thus form the science of therapeutics.
3. PHARMACEUTICAL CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT
It is the Department of chemistry, which ascertains or regulates the chemical composition of medicinal substances. Analysis of drugs and pharmaceutical forms the backbone of research and development in pharmaceutical industry. The department focuses on training the graduate students on how to synthesize drugs and use of the modern and newer instrumental analytical techniques such HPLC, HPTLC, Conductometer, UV-Visible Spectroscopy, Flourimetry, Flame photometry etc.
4. PHARMACOGNOSY DEPARTMENT
The Pharmacognosy Department assist the students to acquire skills of identification, morphological and microscopical studies, extraction, isolation, estimation, and formulation aspects of various medicinal and aromatic plants of traditional value. Pharmacognosy department is a link between pharmaceutical and basic sciences.. The department laid an emphasis on screening of possible therapeutic and medicinal values in large number of plants. It is also supported with a botanical garden having a wide variety of plants extending the scope to carry out research.
