Course Overview

Media has emerged as a very powerful tool of social, economic and political change throughout the world. There is hardly any field which is not influence by the media.

In our country, media scene has totally changed particularly in the past two decades. As of now, there are nearly 80000 newspapers and periodicals, nearly 250 radio stations, 400 transmitters, about 500 TV channels and about 300 private FM Radio channels. These cover almost the whole country in terms of readership, viewership and reach.

To cater to the needs of students who are interested in Journalism and Media related matters, the School of Journalism and Mass Communication has formulated the undergraduate and post graduate courses, viz., B.A. (Hons.) Journalism and Mass Communication and M.A. Journalism and Mass Communication.

The candidates who are aware of the current affairs and have flair of writing and are in the habit of reading newspapers regularly besides enjoying writing are most suited for the course.

Course Overview

The principal objective of the course is to educate media practioners who are both technically proficient and intellectually engaged. The post graduate students are trained to be media professionals with strong conceptual and technical skills to enable them to choose a diversity of career options in radio, photography, film, video & TV Production. The course imparts learning in technical and conceptual skills through intensive hands in production work and theoretical academic work. The school intends to provide an education that would enable the students to eventually attain leadership positions in a diversity of media related industries.
